On Monday, November 14th, the first official trailer for Disney’s live-action version of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ was released, with great flair and excitement around.
First, within a day the trailer had 127.6 million views. Thus, it surpassed the ‘Fifty Shades Darker’, trailer with 114 million views for most views in the first twenty-four hours of release. Before ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ the record was held by ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ with 112 million views.
The trailer gained 9.8 million views on YouTube and 29 million views on Facebook. It also gained 27 million views from Emma Watson’s page, alone.
In addition, to breaking the record, it was no accident that this was the first trailer. When you put the live action trailer side by side with the animated version from 1991, they show the same scenes with the same lines and plays the same music. The trailer is an almost-exact replica of the 1991 movie’s trailer. Talk about nostalgia.
The trailer is absolutely beautiful. It features views of how the filmmakers created the enchanted castle and the enchanted objects. Just by the trailer alone, we can get a sense that the filmmakers are staying true to the original Disney storyline, which was loosely based on the French fairytale written by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve in 1740 and rewritten and published by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont in 1756.
The film stars Emma Watson as the beloved heroine Belle and Dan Stevens as the Beast. The movie also features Luke Evans as Gaston, Kevin Kline as Maurice, and Josh Gad as LeFou. The voice ensemble includes Ewan McGregor, Stanley Tucci, Audra McDonald, Ian McKellen, Emma Thompson, and so forth.
The film was directed by Bill Condon and was produced by David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman. ‘The Perks of Being a Wallflower’ author Stephen Chbosky along with Evan Spiliotopoulos and Condon worked on the screenplay.
Disney’s live-action version of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ will premiere on March 17, 2017.
