It's all about me!

Odyssey Introduction

Hello all, this week is going to be pretty boring as far as content goes. I just wanted to introduce myself and let y’all get to know a little bit more about me. To start off with, obviously, my name is Dustin, I am a junior at Ashland University with a Double major in public relations and sport communication; I also have a double minor in information systems and business analytics. I joined Odyssey to sharpen up on my writing skills as well as for a creative outlet.

I have grown up around the Ashland area and chose to go to AU because it was the cheapest and most sensible place for me to go. I live by myself with my puppy Oliver and my cat George. Oliver is a labradoodle and drives me absolutely insane but I love him to death. I have no idea what breed of cat George is so I will just say he’s a domestic short hair. I really don’t do a whole lot, I mostly work, hang out with my girlfriend, and go to class. I have been with my girlfriend, Cassie, for a little over three years now and I love her to death. That is pretty much my basic information.

I guess I can give you a few of the basic fun facts. Ever since I have been about 8 I have had to wear glasses or contacts and am considered legally blind without them, along with my regular vision being messed up I am also color blind. No, that does not mean I see in black and white but I easily confuse color that look like each other. Another thing that some people may find interesting is that I have two half sleeve tattoos. The one on my right arm represents the town that I was born and where a lot of my family still lives in West Virginia. The one on my left arm is my personal favorite and represents my love for history as well as wanting to travel.

That is the basic introduction, I promise not every week is going to be this boring. I plan to write about current events, some interests of mine, business, and maybe even some politics if something like for instance the travel ban (I think it’s ridiculous) happens to make me angry enough to write about. Don’t forget to follow me on twitter(@dbird11) or friend me on Facebook to get to know me a little bit better! I am super easy going and love to make new friends. I look forward to reading everyone’s content and I hope you all enjoy my future content!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
