College forces you to step out of your comfort zone to try to make new friends, but I wasn’t ready. I wasn’t ready to move on from the people that knew me so well back home. I wanted to move away, but not away from the friends I was leaving behind.
Your friendship wasn’t expected. I thought you were just going to be that girl I sat next to in my class who was nice and friendly, but you actively talked to me. The first two weeks on campus, I couldn’t connect with anyone, but you were different. You were able to put up with my sarcasm and give me attitude right back. Our friendship started as one of those class friends where we only really talked in class and snapped occasionally, but it grew and grew. We started going to meals together and football games. You welcomed me into your life and let me start making some real college memories with you.
You have been there for nearly every freshman milestone: first football game, first basketball game, first college party, first exams, final exam stress, etc. You made everything easier and more fun; you have made my first year better. You were right there to experience these events with me and always included me. I knew that I had found someone I wanted to be friends with for a long time.
I didn’t know then what our friendship would be today. I didn’t know you would become a big part of my life. You have helped make this big campus feel like home. You have made me want to make friends and live my life to the fullest. You have helped me even make some new friends of my own. I didn’t know I would find a shoulder to cry on and a laugh when I needed it. I didn’t know you’d become part of the family and I’d be part of yours.
Thank you for listening to me talk about my problems whether that be boy drama or friendship drama. Thank you for putting up with crazy self and knowing exactly what to say. Thank you for being my friend when I was lost in my first year. College has been an adventure with you. I don’t know what I would do without your support and friendship. My college experience would be so different if it weren’t for you. Thank you for all the memories we’ve created and the many to come. People say you meet your lifelong friends in college, and boy I’m glad I met you.
