Everyone that knows me knows that I am a HUGE dog person. I have legit stopped my car and pulled over to pet dogs on the street. Now, I have had three dogs in my lifetime, the third is still a puppy who I love with my whole heart. We got Penny a couple months after our 18-year-old Cocker Spaniel, Lucy, passed away.
By the way, all three of the dogs have been Cocker Spaniels; they are our favorite breed. Anyways, there I was, a dog mom to the core and now I have a kitten. How did that happen you ask? Let me tell you.
At the end of my sophomore year, I was talking to my boyfriend and his roommates about getting an animal for the next year for my apartment when one suggested I get a kitten. I wanted a puppy but I knew it would be cruel because I knew I wouldn't be home enough for him, but surprisingly Andy was on board with getting a kitten.
We contacted his uncle who is a vet and before we knew it, we had a kitten that was from a fresh litter just for us. His uncle watched him over the summer where he learned how to be a cat from the three clinic cats that he lived with. I got pictures periodically and even stopped in to see him once.
At the beginning of August, I moved into my apartment and hurried as fast as I could just so that I could go and get him sooner. I raced over to the clinic and got my kitten, Apollo. He is named after Apollo Creed from the Rocky movies since that we were watching the movies when we decided that we were going to get a cat (and also Rocky is a dog name).
He cried the whole way home, and me being the dog person I am, just cried back at him because I didn't know what to do. With a puppy you can just hold them or pet them and they will be fine, but he has no idea who I am, he was in his kennel so he wouldn't run away, and it was just difficult.
When I got him home I showed him his litter box ASAP so he would know where to go and *knock on wood* we have not had any accidents yet. He has been the sweetest kitten ever.
Before I got him, I bought a collar, tag, bed, litter box, etc. and I even made him a little trailer out of boxes to play in. When I picked Apollo up, they gave me some food and his favorite mouse toy and he is still chasing that thing around. Our first night, he was always with me, if he didn't see me leave the room he would cry and come look for me.
I found out that he kind of comes when I call his name and he also likes to step all over my laptop. Apollo slept right next to me the first night and even slept next to Andy when he came over the second night. I love having a car because he can entertain himself but he is also reliant on me and will come to lay with me when I am literally anywhere.
I just love him so much, he just crawls right up and lays down just to purr on me. It also turns out that he must know that I am his momma because he has no interest in having other people hold him! That's my baby boy. Anyways, I highly recommend this change because I love him so much and he is just the perfect addition to my little family.
