It is the night before move in day and you're probably too hyped to go to sleep. With all the stress and effort you've put into packing, you're probably super anxious that the day has finally come. So many thoughts run through your head and you aren't sure how to feel. Don't worry, I've been in your shoes. As a recent officially moved in freshman, here are a few tips on how to survive your first week of school.
1. It's okay to overpack.
You're revelling in your newly founded independence, the impending "best four years of your life" and the countless experiences that will someday turn into excellent stories. You fear the fact of not having enough things. This may be the first time of you leaving home or maybe not. This can definitely be a thought that crosses your mind. Well, I'm here to let you know that it is okay. Whatever you do not need can be kept for safe keeping or your parents can just take them back if they want.
At the ages of 17-19, you'll probably be asked what it is that you want to study. More than likely, the answer would be "I'm not sure yet". That is perfectly fine. I'm currently in your shoes. Be open minded and be willing to explore!
3. You will have ups and downs.
Life isn't perfect. As much as you may want, it is not going to be good all the times. You may feel stressed about classes, home, sleep, food, social life...etc., but that's completely normal.
4. Take the time to call and speak to relatives.
For most, this is the first time they are leaving home for this long. It may be a huge transition for you, but know that it is the same for the parents. To them, it seems like it was just yesterday that they were cradling you in their arms. Be sure to call them and check in to make sure that they are doing well and reassure them that you are doing well. Express your feelings and listen to them. This could be a great coping mechanism for most.
You may or may not have orientation but once your classes start, it can be really easy for one to forget to eat or cause an imbalance in your eating routine. This can affect you in mentally, physically and emotionally. So please just remember to take a little time to grab a bite to it. Your body will thank you later!

Honestly, one of the best things are power naps. Whenever you have free time and you are feeling stressed, take a power nap. At least 30 minutes and I promise you that your body would feel so rejuvenated and you just wouldn't regret it. I live for those!
