Finding an Internship

Finding an Internship

The whole point of coming to college is to get an education in order to get a job and be a functioning member of society. In order to have any kind of hope of landing a great job when graduating, an internship (or a few) is necessary. Internships offer unique experiences to help you gain knowledge about the field you want to work in and meet people to help you begin and further your career. The problem? We are 20-year-olds and the majority of us are not even close to being ready to enter the real world.

"Difficult" and "frightening" do not even being to describe the process of searching for an internship. So many things factor into finding and getting the perfect job. Where can I get an internship? Am I going to get paid? Is this actually going to help me with my career? It's a process that takes a while to work through and figure out.

You have to apply to a ton of jobs in hopes of hearing back from maybe a few. Your resume is your ticket into getting looked at anywhere. The experiences and leadership on that piece of paper will basically determine your future with any company or organization. If the items you list on that piece of paper match up to what that company wants, you'll land an interview, and if not, better luck with the other ten you applied for.

Interviews are like tests that you don't have a study guide for. You can do research about the company and you can know your resume like the back of your hand, but you really don't know what the company is going to ask you until you are sitting in that office trying not to sweat through your business attire. Your head is racing trying to think of the perfect answer without sounding rehearsed.

Sometimes you'll get offered the job, sometimes you won't. Then the cycle just begins all over again. There is a job out there for everyone, you just have to take the time and put in the effort to find it.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
