Throughout life we are conditioned to believe that we can find happiness in others. Either a boyfriend, girlfriend, friends and so on. We are told to search for people that make us happy or fulfill some sort of void that we have in our lives.
Now, don't get me wrong I have believed this, like others, for a long time. But I have come to realize that we as people, should not solely rely on others for happiness. It is completely normal to want people in your life that make you happy, but do not let someone else's good qualities diminish the light on your own good qualities.
When dealing with love or romantic relationships, it's easy to say "Oh, they just make me so happy." Which is great, and okay to be head over heels in love with someone who makes you feel that way, but when and if you are not together anymore, will you wallow in sadness thinking that, that person was the only one to make you happy?
Don't let others be the only reason that you smile. Before getting into a relationship, take a minute to look at yourself. To understand your self worth, and that you can make yourself happy. Come to the conclusion that you determine your own happiness and that you do not need to rely on someone else for that. If you find that love within yourself, you won't need to search for it within others. You can share and love someone else, but at the end of the day your sense of self needs to come from the person staring right back at you in the mirror.
Instead of focusing on the negative things like saying, "My hair looks so bad today." Focus on turning those comments into positive ones like, "Work that up do, honey!" Having confidence and how you phrase things can make a huge difference. If you think you look bad or sloppy because you are wearing sweatpants (which by the way, they are 100% okay and I think EVERYONE loves sweatpants), tell yourself that you're still cute and work it.
We are not perfect beings, we all have flaws and I believe we should all work towards loving those flaws instead of hating them.
Love yourself, understand your self worth, find your own happiness. Once you have found all those elements you won't need to that validation from others. You'll understand and come to realize who you are as a person. Be confident in your own skin.
