6 Ways To Make Finals Week Less Stressful
Adriaan Odendaal

Everyone knows finals week is coming up; time to kick studying into high gear! I know how stressful finals week can be; I am coming up to my fourth one yet in college. Most people like myself tend to procrastinate and just “wing” it. However, this is our future we are talking about and we need to focus. Here are some ways to make this week less stressful for yourself.

1. Study ahead of time!

I know most people are very last minute when it comes to studying, especially me sometimes. Nonetheless, getting your studying in ahead of time gives your mind more time to grasp all the information and makes your life a lot less stressful, trust me.

2. Skip the party.

There are going to be so many parties in the future, so skipping a couple to study won’t hurt you, I promise! I know you want to get these last few parties in and spend more time with your friends from school. With the weather getting warmer to start the summer, it’s hard to say no to going out! But staying focused and getting in all the studying you need to do will be worth it. The party? Not so much.

3. Rent a study room in the library.

I know you are going to miss your school friends and don’t want to spend hours by yourself in your room or in the library pounding information into your head. Rent out a study room for you and your friends, or for you and some people in your class, and help each other! This way it doesn’t seem like such a burden, and you have a productive day/afternoon/night with your friends.

4. Make sure you get a good amount of sleep.

Like I said previously, skip the party! Nothing is worse than sleeping past your alarm and missing your final or waking up so hungover you can’t even think straight when you’re walking into your final. The amount of sleep you get has such a HUGE impact on you and the way your day is going to pan out, so try the best you can.

5. Ask for fewer hours at work.

I know a lot of students on and off campus have jobs, and school can be really hard on people. The people who are able to successfully juggle both are amazing and good for you! However, some of us, like me, are not so lucky. Most places are very understanding of school and letting them know finals week is coming would definitely help you have more time to study, sleep, and have less stress on your hands. Summer is about to come and then your schedule will be free!

6. Keep in mind that this is your future we are talking about!

Finals may seem stressful and sometimes college seems like it’s all fun and games, although these four or however many years you are going to be studying in school define our future! These finals matter; they could be the deciding grade if you pass or fail a class and whether or not your GPA goes up or down. Take these seriously; make sure you eat beforehand, get a good amount of sleep, and STUDY!

Good luck to everyone taking finals!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
