“NO, GOD, PLEASE, NO, NOOOOOOOO” –Michael Scott
At one point or another, we all go through the denial phase, usually over Thanksgiving break. We attempt to prolong our finals with procrastination, even though they are happening on the date your teacher gave no matter what. We begin to live in a fantasy world, where reality has no hold on us, and we feel like we’re invincible. I hate to break it to you, but finals and studying for them are a real thing. However, once reality sets in and everyday school routines are back to normal, we get into the groove of working hard right before Christmas break!
“Everyone stay calm… STAY FREAKING CALM!” –Michael Scott
Although I altered this quote a little, all of us are beginning to feel the pressure of finals and last minute assignments. We are all high strung and stressed out over the amount of work or what grade we need earn to get an A. Here is a little piece of advice: literally stay calm. Although finals are huge exams, in the end, they are just tests. Stressing about or feeling anxious about your finals is not going to change the outcome that God has already planned. Be still in Him and know that He will bring you through the challenges your facing in this season of life.
“I’m running away from my responsibilities…and it feels good.” –Michael Scott
Although we are all working hard and studying, we all have relapse of procrastination and no motivation. Yeah, procrastinating feels good because you’re just relaxing, but relaxing is for Christmas break! Push through the laziness and think about how satisfying it will be when you see that you got an A on that final you poured your heart and soul into. You worked so hard all semester, don’t let finals get the best of you!
“Sometimes I’ll start a sentence, and I don’t even know where it’s going. I just hope I find it along the way.”
At some point during finals, we all hit the delusional phase, where everything starts to blur together. Our words and thoughts don’t make sense, as we are sleep deprived and functioning solely on Jesus and Coffee. The other day I literally spelled “Half” backwards. Although finals studying and homework can take its toll, remember to get a good amount of sleep, eat healthy foods, and drink a lot of water. Additionally, we need to be smart about our choices. If you have to study for a final, don’t make plans with friends or study with friends, where you know you’re not going to get any work done. Simply, by making small, good decisions, finals can change from a terrible time to a not SO bad time.
“I am Beyonce….always.” –Michael Scott
After finals are over, it is FINALLY Christmas break, and everyone is catching up on sleep, eating good food, and spending time with friends and family. After you have studied so hard, you walk out of your last final as if you were Beyonce at a concert, slaying life. The wind is blowing in your hair and you strike a fierce pose for the imaginary paparazzi. It’s one of the best feelings to know you put your all into your work and feel confident about it afterwards. Rejoice in your hard work, and praise God for giving you the motivation to get through finals!
