I didn’t think that the whole wearing sweatpants, drinking tons of coffee and procrastinating like crazy was a "thing" in college. And then I came to San Jose State University.
I remember my first all-nighter, specifically in the library this past week. 24 hour study was a new thing for me and I thought that only the strongest people could ever withstand being up for so long while working at the same time. With the type of workload that we get as college students, the pressure is on us to put in the effort to finish the semester strong.
As finals season approach us, the dorms become quieter. The campus climate seems to shift to a less livelier one. You can almost feel the stress lingering. Students are drinking their body weight in coffee and energy drinks. Sleeping becomes optional and sweatpants are the staple fashion item of the season. The focus is shifted to our exams and last assignments for our semester. The library is beginning to reach its capacity. Generally, everyone looks like they are in need of a nap or two. Maybe even three.
As I begin to start my first finals week, I look around me for motivation and I understand that I am not alone. It is a very difficult time for students, but at the end of it all, we know that we get a whole month off to relax with our families. Our effort is always worth it at the end because we know we did the best that we could for the time being in the fall semester.
