Finals Are Upon Us

CALLING ALL COLLEGE STUDENTS:

Well it's that highly anticipated, extremely dreaded time of the year. The time that all college students know will happen, yet act so astonished when it finally gets here. It's the last week of hell before we finally reach blissful paradise of no classes, homework, or exams for a month: FINALS WEEKS *cues horror music & screams*

We have to go through this time period of frenzied, caffeine fueled, "what is sleep?" in order to successfully make it to the end...well the end of the fall semester at least. If college students had it our way, exams wouldn't even exist but unfortunately, we have no say so in how the academic knowledge we acquired during the semester is measured. Luckily, we have exam week where we can show off all we've learned (and then forget most of it right after we turn in the test).

So if you're feeling one or more of the below feelings that I'm experiencing: 1.) Exhausted 2.) Stressed 3.) Exhausted (yes, I'm that tired I had to say it twice) 4.) Mentally AND physically drained 5.) Defeated, please continue to read (I know you'd rather not since you have to read for the next week or so but it'll help...I hope).

Alright, I'll get to the point: I get how you feel right now, fellow academic scholars. So I've come up with a list of a few reasons why you should finish the race strong and with complete reassurance that you got this. Just DO it!

  • Obstacles make you stronger. Finals week may seem like an obstacle but it’s really a small hurdle to jump over and I promise you’ll feel so proud of yourself once you make it over.
  • One step closer. After you turn in your last final and FINALLY get to go home, keep in mind that you’re closer—closer to accomplishing your goals and being who you aspire to be.
  • You’ve dealt with worse. Even though you’re young with so much more life to live, I guarantee you have dealt with and gotten through much worse than this. Looking back, finals will look like a walk in the park!
  • You’re not the only one. You, hundreds of thousands of college students, and I are all going through this at the same time (more or less) TOGETHER. You’re friends and classmates can relate to your stress and struggle during this upcoming week. Make a support group and call it: Struggles of the Young, Stressed, and Broke.
  • It’s only a week. When you finally reach the point of throwing your books out the window, turning off your phone, and crawling into bed: DON’T. Remember it’s just a week. It’ll feel like eternity while it’s happening but when it’s over, you’ll be Gucci…I promise.

And if you feel like you’re losing it, remember what one of the GOATs said:

Being Invisible The Best Super Power

The best superpower ever? Being invisible of course. Imagine just being able to go from seen to unseen on a dime. Who wouldn't want to have the opportunity to be invisible? Superman and Batman have nothing on being invisible with their superhero abilities. Here are some things that you could do while being invisible, because being invisible can benefit your social life too.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
