Dear Best Friend,
It's been exactly 1 year and 4 months since we met on that cold day on the counter at Aunt Carrie's. We bonded over complaining about a customer and since then we've been practically inseparable. That summer was the first summer I didn't spend all day on the couch just watching TV and instead I got to spend it making lots of memories with you. We worked lots of long days, and all those eleven pm runs to Applebees were worth it because it meant I got to spend more time with you.
Long days working together turned into sleepovers, and those sleepovers turned into amazing beach days. We would always go to Cumberland Farms to get Gatorade and then to Subway to get sandwiches. Once Labor Day weekend came around I knew summer was coming to an end, and that I wouldn't see you as much once school started. I would occasionally run into you at the mall or send you a random Snapchat of things that reminded me of you, but it wasn't the same. I didn't know it at the time but I was missing my other half.
Senior year was tough on me and I was in a rough spot when Aunt Carrie's re-opened in April. When i walked in the first day and saw that your name was on the schedule for the second week in May, I knew instantly my summer was going to be so much better. That first shift we worked together it was as if we hadn't been apart for almost nine months. As the season went on, we shared prom photos, graduation photos, boy drama, and almost everything in between. It seemed that every Friday night we were going to Applebees for late night appetizers, and the occasional trip to the pier if we were feeling fancy. Although this summer we didn't make it to the beach, we did take many trips to the mall and worked many long weeks together. As summer came to a close and college approached, we worried about dorm assignments together. Although we were probably on our phones way to much, and that one person answering the phones at RIC on that one specific day knew our voices, it was something we did together. Now here we are, in college, together.
I'm writing you this letter because I don't think I've ever told you how much you actually mean to me. I know we haven't been friends for that long, but it feels like I've known you my entire life. Whenever I am having a problem I know I can come to you no matter the situation, and you will give me the best advice you can give. You are the best friend I have ever had, so much that I would consider you the sister I never had. I can't wait to be your maid-of-honor some day and be the godmother to your kids. Don't worry -- I won't tell them too much about us; those stories are forever staying between us.
Love you lots,
Amy (your better half)
