Vera Nazarian has said, "A woman is human. She is not better, wiser, stronger, more intelligent, more creative, or more responsible than a man. Likewise, she is never less.
Equality is a given. A woman is human." Gender oppression and inequality is a topic that we hear about in society all the time. But what exactly is gender oppression? Well, gender oppression is defined as oppression associated with the gender norms, relations, and stratification of a given society. Gender oppression and inequality have become worldwide problems that affect many people, especially the female race as they are viewed less than equal compared to males. Humanity requires both men and women, so each gender needs to be treated with the same rules and respect.

One of the biggest forms of gender inequality in modern society is the difference in wages between men and women. Today, women make up half of the U.S. workforce, but the average-working women earns only 77 percent of what the average working man makes. Even though a woman may do the same exact job as man, she is paid less because of her gender. Why should a woman be paid less for the same amount of work done as her male counterpart? Women have worked very hard to excel and prosper in the workforce, but there still remains a sense of inequality among women and men. Equality will be achieved when both men and women are treated with respect.

A form of gender oppression that many women have to deal with is domestic violence. Domestic violence has become predominantly common around the world and so many women are affected by it. In the UK, domestic violence claims the lives of two women per week; in the US it is estimated that 3 million women are physically abused by a husband or boyfriend per year; it is also the case that, globally, at least one in every three women has been beaten, coerced into sex, or otherwise abused in her lifetime. We live in a society where women are taken advantage of for their vulnerability against men. Women are merely treated as objects that can be toyed around for pleasure and work. Associating women with their beauty and physical appearance is regarded as form gender oppression by many feminists as it is responsible for women being viewed as sexual objects and is held to lead to other social problems such as rape and sexual assault. Even though domestic violence is major problem affecting the lives of millions of women around the world, it often overlooked, excused, or denied. Gender oppression and inequality are social problems that affect the lives of many innocent females every day, whether it ranges from differences in work pay or to domestic violence. Women should feel as if they are treated with the same respect and rules that men are treated with and have the same opportunities to do something great with their lives. It is hard to imagine that we live in a world where women are still treated unfairly and are looked down upon. Unless both men and women come together to fight these disparities, oppression and inequality willcontinue to grow.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
