For many college students, shopping at various stores is part of our daily, weekly or monthly routine. However, many students don’t think to research which retailers offer student discounts. For students of Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU), we conveniently have access to the Miromar Outlets, Gulf Coast Town Center and the Coconut Point Shopping Centers.

Whether you are shopping for a the newest Apple electronic, picking up some clothes to add to your wardrobe or just interested in grabbing a bite to eat, here’s a list of some of the discounts local retailers have to offer you, upon presentation of your student ID.

Gulf Coast Town Center

The Gulf Coast Town Center is located in Fort Myers, Florida and is home to over 90 retail stores, two hotels and various service providers.

AT&T Wireless — 17 percent off eligible devices and service plans; you can check you eligibility here.

Charlotte Russe — 10 percent off any purchase.

Cold Stone Creamery -—10 percent off any purchase.

Formera — 10 percent off of any purchase.

Fresh Planet Cafe — 10 percent off any purchase.

Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores — 10 percent off any purchase and this discount can also be combined with coupons.

Moe’s Southwest Grill — 25 percent off any purchase (Wednesdays only).

Pita Pit — 10 percent off any purchase.

Sport Clips — $3 off any service.

Yogen Fruz Frozen Yogurt — 15 percent off any purchase.

Miromar Outlets

Miromar Outlets is a designer and brand-name outlet mall comprised of over 140 stores. Miromar Outlets is located in Estero, Florida, and is a popular destination for community members, college students and tourist of the area.

Eddie Bauer — 10 percent off any purchase.

Foster’s Grill — 20 percent off any purchase (Tuesdays only).

Le Creuset — 15 percent off any purchase.

Luna Rossa Italian Grill — 10 percent off any purchase.

Coconut Point Mall

Coconut Point is an outdoor shopping mall located in Estero, Florida. It features over 140 stores including Dillards, Apple, Target, Michael Kohrs and Best Buy. The mall has a variety of shops and restaurants. It is also a popular destination among travelers and community members.

Hair Cuttery — 10 percent off any service.

LensCrafters — 40 to 50 percent off purchase.

Other Student Discounts

Florida Gulf Coast University - Students are able to download a free copy of the Microsoft Office by accessing their Eagle email accounts.

Goodwill — 10 percent off purchase.

Although this list does not feature all of the local retailers offering student discounts, it is meant to serve as a comprehensive list of various stores frequented by FGCU students. If you're ever in a store, then don't be afraid to ask the cashier if they offer a student discount because the worse they can say is no, and the best thing to come from it is savings!

When shopping around for the best deals, it is also a good idea to check out discount apps like RetailMeNot and Groupon, as well as store apps like the Publix and Target's Cartwheel for featured coupons and sales.

Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine.
