A Few Things You Need To Thank Your Big For Right Now
Nina Saluga

Of all the people you're bound to bump into during your Greek experience, your big is by far the most extraordinary. This is the girl that, from the moment you meet, takes you under her wing and treats you like her own. The initial chemistry between you and your big is automatic. From rush-crushing to big-little reveal, your big is the one thing that remains constant through it all. It's time to say thank you to the girl who was there for you from the beginning.

Thank you for guiding me through the new member process.

Joining Greek life is an exciting but overwhelming experience for new members. Being welcomed into your chapter is a thrilling experience, but can be scary at times. Thank you to my big for guiding me through the new member process and encouraging me to keep with it even when I felt unsure that I truly belonged in our chapter. Thank you for convincing me that I was wanted and that I could be a productive and valuable member of the chapter just like you.

Thank you for integrating me into your friend group.

Joining a sorority of 70+ girls gives you the opportunity to get to know an amazing group of young women. However, navigating your way through all of your sisters to find who you really and truly click with can be a huge task. Thank you to my big for integrating me into your friend group and never making me feel like a tag along. Thank you for always making me feel included and for introducing me to some of my closest friends.

Thank you for always thinking of me.

Thank you for always making it a point to make plans whether it's a quick coffee date, dinner on the weekend or just meeting up at the library to catch up for a minute or two. Thank you for bringing me ice cream when I can't come with and for inviting me to family dinner with you and your roommates. Thank you for always keeping me in mind.

Thank you for being there.

Thank you for always being there for me. From the time you became my big, and even before that, you have always been no more than a call, text, hug or coffee date away. Thank you for always talking me off the ledge, motivating me through finals, showing up for hugs at the drop of a hat, inspiring me to take on an active role in the chapter and so much more. Thank you for always giving me your most honest fashion advice, for making sure I always have something to do on the weekends and for always being that first like, retweet and share.

Thank you for inspiring me.

Thank you to my big for being an incredible sister, friend and, most importantly, role model. You inspire me every single day to be as caring, thoughtful and kind as you are. You are seriously a ray of sunshine in my life, and I will never be able to thank you enough for the friendship and happiness you have brought me thus far. Thank you for inspiring me to be the kind of big to someone else that you are to me. I only hope that my future little will be as thankful to have me as I am to have you.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
