You’re going on a vacation. What’s your top destination? Florida? Cali? NYC? Chicago? All are great choices, really. But I’m here to tell you that there’s one place that just might give you the best adventure you’ve ever had. You should consider it. That place is Canada. You heard me, I’m talking about crossing international borders. It can be a little scary going someplace extremely foreign and different, but it is so worth it!! Here’s why:

1.) Canada is unique.

NEVER turn down a chance to try something new. Every country has their own specialties and Canada is no exception. Ever heard of poutine? It’s only the most delicious thing ever—fries smothered in gravy and cheese curds… unheard of in the US, but oh so popular here in Canadian territory. And that’s just one example of a food that new and exciting in Canada. Or how about using the metric system? Having Parliament instead of Congress? Provinces and territories instead of states? Canada is unique and awesome!

2.) Cost friendly

Canada is affordable!! Currently the exchange rate from the American dollar to the Canadian dollar is 0.76. That means you get more bang for your buck no matter where you go in Canada and no matter what you spend it on. I think that’s a little something everyone can get excited about.

3.) Drinking.

Not only is the drinking age lower in Canada (19 years old), but the variety of breweries and wineries is never ending!! If you’re looking for a tour or even just a wide selection of craft beers and local wines, Canada is your place.

4.) Diversity and acceptance.

Diversity and acceptance are encouraged here. Canada, with its large French history and background, not only love to celebrate different cultures and races, but they accept everyone no matter their skin color, sexuality, or religion. Sometimes it’s nice to be apart of a community that genuinely accepts each other for who they are, something we don’t always see in America.

5.) Get away from reality

A trip to Canada is a chance to escape America and go off the grid for a few days. What does that mean? No more crazy texts from your ex-boyfriend (or family members) and no more political debates about Trump. It is a way to getaway from your busy life back home and thoroughly enjoy yourself for a few days without a million distractions.

6.) Canadian Hospitality

Canadian hospitality is real. The people here are so incredibly nice. Not only are they smiley and welcoming, but they are always willing to lend a helping hand to you during your stay. If you’re going to go anywhere, may as well go where the people are happy! That’s got to be some indication of how great the country is!

Whether you’re getting away for a few days, or a week, Canada has a million things to offer. I highly recommend you check it out—I promise you won’t regret it!

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
