Honestly, when I have been listening to music for a while, I get bored with the songs. Even though my library has thousands of songs, I feel like the same ones play over and over. That’s not a huge problem because I do love them; they just start getting repetitive over time. So, that’s why I have fallen in love with mashup versions of songs. There are so many talented artists out there who put together amazing versions of songs everyone knows and loves. Here are a few of my favorites:
"Thinking Out Loud/ I’m Not the Only One" by Sam Tsui and Casey Breves
"Thinking Out Loud" and "I’m Not the Only One" were both dropped in 2014 by Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith, respectively. Two popular YouTube singers, who frequently collaborate on mashups, got together to create an amazing new version of these songs. It is 100 percent worth a million listens.
"I’m Yours/ Somewhere Over the Rainbow" by Straight No Chaser
Jason Mraz’s "I’m Yours" and Israel Kamakawiwo’ole’s "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," which is frequently covered by other artists, get covered together in this song. Both songs are highlighted and the result is awesome!
"Blank Space/ Stand By Me" by Imagine Dragons
This song is the perfect combination between old and new. "Blank Space" off of Taylor Swift’s 2014 album,1989, combines with Ben E. King’s "Stand By Me." It just goes to show that you can never get rid of the classics, and why would you?
"Let It Go/Let Her Go" by Sam Tsui
Now maybe I’m biased because "Frozen" is my favorite movie and my celebrity crush is Passenger, but this mashup is my all-time favorite.
"Shut Up and Dance/ Teenage Dream"
The kids who made this video are so young, but so talented. A lot of times, I find myself not enjoying the mix of songs because it’s very obvious when one song starts and the other begins. This song flows so effortlessly and it has an amazing sound. "Shut Up and Dance" is from Walk The Moon’s 2014 album, "Talking Hard," and "Teenage Dream" is by Katy Perry and can be found on her 2010 "Teenage Dream" album.
"Blank Space/Style" by Louisa Wendorff
You don’t even have to be a Taylor Swift fan to love this song, but I don’t really understand why you’re not… Anyway, this is a mashup of two songs from her recent album, "1989." The album is full of great tracks, and these two, in particular, are found in countless other mashups.
So, next time you feel like your music library needs some excitement, give some of these mishaps a listen.
