Feminism is not what you exactly think of.

Tackling Stereotypes of Feminism

Feminism was the word of the year back in 2017. It is still an important word you would hear and see again and again in this present time. This concept has played a huge role in today's politics as many women are fighting for their rights of equality. Feminism is defined as advocating for women's rights for equality. Majority of today's society view feminism as a driving force for a better future of equality, but there are some people who view feminism as a in society. People are annoyed and loathed with how feminists are, which is why I am tackling several stereotypes of feminism. Here are the five stereotypes that lead to people loathing on feminism.

1. Feminists loathe men.

This is really misleading as feminists are actually fighting to become equal like men. Some of them, of course, would actually show their hatred because they are fighting for what they know what is right, which is equality for all. Also, of course, a small portion of them actually loathe men, but this does not represent what feminism it is actually and who feminists are.

2. Feminists dominate men.

Going back to what I mention in the first stereotype, feminists want equality, not dominancy. They do not want to be above men. They want to be equal like them. It looks like some feminists go above and beyond to be best gender, which misleads some people to think they are trying to dominate men, even though they are not.

3. Feminists are loud and obnoxious.

Feminists can be loud so their voice can be heard and they can get their points across and why something is wrong and what we need to do. They are not obnoxious as some people might think. Feminists can be passionate by how they feel about issues like gun control, immigration, and health care for example. They can do it in a professional matter while using the power of their voice to get politicians to listen to them, which is not in an obnoxious matter.

4. Feminists are only women.

Feminists are not only women. Men can also be feminists. Teenagers and children can feminists. Anyone can be a feminist regardless of background. The media stereotyped feminists are only women, which leads to many people to think this way. Everyone who fights for equality for all are feminists.

5. Feminists agree with each other and have the same opinions.

This is not true. Everyone thinks differently, so therefore, feminists are not going to have the same opinions and agree on issues like gun control for example. Some feminists are going to think that more guns should be ban completely while others might think there should just be an increase in background checks and storage safety. Some may think we have to work on mental health issues, which would decrease the amount of shootings from happening. Even with different opinions and disagreements, they all have one common goal: to prevent shootings from happening so everyone would live in peace. Feminists know what is right or wrong. They want everyone to feel safe in their communities and not live their lives in fear.

I believe everyone should be a feminist but I can understand why there would be some people who are so against due to these stereotypes. Remember, every feminist is different. It does not matter if you are Asian, African American, lesbian, asexual, middle class, rich, or anything else. Feminists all come from different backgrounds. Also, remember this, feminists believe equality for not just for women but also for everyone of different race, sexual orientation, and culture.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
