Feminism today is as important as it is misunderstood. There are many misconceptions surrounding the 'F-Word', but it really is more simple than we expect. Feminism applies across all races, genders, nationalities, and religions. In better understanding the feminist movement, we are already taking steps towards equality. Here are some quotes by women, in support of feminism:

“Some people ask: “Why the word feminist? Why not just say you are a believer in human rights, or something like that?” Because that would be dishonest. Feminism is, of course, part of human rights in general—but to choose to use the vague expression human rights is to deny the specific and particular problem of gender. It would be a way of pretending that it was not women who have, for centuries, been excluded. It would be a way of denying that the problem of gender targets women.”

-Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

“Women are the largest untapped reservoir of talent in the world.”

-Hillary Clinton

"There never will be complete equality until women themselves help to make laws and elect lawmakers."

-Susan B. Anthony

"The question isn't who's going to let me; it's who's going to stop me."

-Ayn Rand

“The history of the past is but one long struggle upward to equality.”

-Elizabeth Cady Stanton

“Real change will come when powerful women are less of an exception. It is easy to dislike senior women because there are so few.”

-Sheryl Sandberg

"I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the lapels. Life's a b****. You've got to go out and kick ass."

-Maya Angelou

“Girls need to know that being a feminist is a good thing. It doesn’t mean that you hate men. It means equal rights. If you’re doing the same job, you should be compensated and treated in the same way."

-Charlize Theron

"Women are always saying, 'We can do anything that men can do.' But Men should be saying, 'We can do anything that women can do.'"

-Gloria Steinem

“I said on the equality side of it, that it is essential to a woman's equality with man that she be the decision-maker, that her choice be controlling.”

-Ruth Bader Ginsburg

“I do not wish them to have power over men, but over themselves.”

-Mary Wollstonecraft

“I stand here and I am amazing, for you. Not because of you. I am not who I sleep with. I am not my weight. I am not my mother. I am myself.”

-Amy Schumer

“It is time for parents to teach young people early on that in diversity there is beauty and there is strength.”

-Maya Angelou

"We all have our imperfections. But I'm human, and you know, it's important to concentrate on other qualities besides outer beauty."

-Beyonce Knowles

“The power I exert on the court depends on the power of my arguments, not on my gender.”

-Sandra Day O'Connor

"You don't have to be anti-man to be pro-woman."

-Jane Galvin Lewis

“I don't want other people to decide who I am. I want to decide that for myself.”

-Emma Watson

“We must tell girls their voices are important.”

-Malala Yousafzai

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
