Even though Women's History Month is coming to a close, the celebration can still rage on (in a more tame way.) This last week is a great opportunity to celebrate film and television that features some rad ladies the best way we know how, an enormous Netflix binge! Watch them all on a weekend or add them to your queue and continue the celebration. Here are some feminist movies at TV shows that are available to stream.
1. Miss Representation.
This 2011 documentary explores the role of the mainstream media in the under-representation of women in positions of power or leadership in television and movies.
2. The Fall.
Become absorbed in a cat and mouse game between an investigator (played by "The X- Files'"s Gillian Anderson) and a serial killer.
3. Dark Girls.
An immersive documentary that explores how women with dark skin are perceived by men and women, both black and white.
4. Jessica Jones.
Jessica is an ex-superhero from the Marvel Universe who now lives and works in New York City and suffers from PTSD.
5. Advanced Style.
This feel-good documentary follows seven fashionistas who are living out their golden years in style and putting to rest the notion that fashion and age are mutually exclusive.
6. Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Buffy is a cheerleader, blonde and also a bad ass vampire slayer. Bless Netflix for having all seven seasons of my spirit animal available to stream.
7. Girl Rising.
A documentary that combines nine different director's portrait of nine different girls across the globe.
8. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Kimmy Schmidt was held underground for 15 years as a part of a doomsday cult, but now is free and learning about the pop culture and how to be an adult in New York City. Especially good to get sucked in now because season two will be available to stream starting April 15th.
Happy Women's History Month and happy binging!
