To my fellow "feminists",

I hate what you've done to the values I have upheld and believe in.

With the upcoming election, a lot of talk about feminism has been thrown around. On Trump's side, modern-day feminists label him as a chauvinistic pig of a man. On Clinton's side, she is replaying history by becoming one small step for a woman and one huge leap for feminists everywhere by even being a presidential candidate, let alone if she wins the election. I would just like to take a few moments to set the record straight.

I would like to start out by saying that I am an unbiased voter who isn't really for/against either candidate in this election as I believe most young people are. While I don't agree with some of the stereotypically male things Trump has said about women, I also don't agree with ganging up on one man who has done no worse than most men have done in the past. I challenge you to Google scandals men have been in, especially male celebrities or politicians, and you will find a long list of wrongs mainly aimed towards women, whether it be cheating on their wife with another woman or hitting a woman. I do believe that these things are wrong no matter who does it or what they've done against these women, so don't count me off as excusing Trump simply because others have done the same if not worse than him. However, men for centuries have treated women this way, in and out of the spotlight. Walking down the street, a woman is cat-called or talked about in terms of their anatomy and any woman who denies this to be a global issue is lying to themselves.

On Clinton's side, while I agree that it would be a large step for women to have a female president in office, I think we have to be careful as a generation to not let our excitement for this milestone cloud our judgement as to what makes a good candidate. While Hillary is intelligent and has the presence required of a nation's leader, she also is untrustworthy and this should be treated in the same seriousness it would be treated if she were a man running for the democratic party.

Like I've said, I'm unbiased in this election as I'm neither for/against either of the candidates. What I am against is the fact that this election has turned into a gender race instead of a presidential election. Instead of picking someone competent, both parties have chosen candidates who are either known for their fame or are making waves because they are a certain gender instead of choosing candidates who are capable to run a country efficiently.

But, allow me to dismount from my soap box, and get back to the issue at hand:

Modern day feminists have destroyed what feminism started as, which was simply to treat women as equal to men in terms of brains, respect, and capability. It started with "I am woman. Hear me roar", with a group of young women wanting to make a difference in the world the same as the men were allowed to do. It has turned into "I am woman. Now I will huff and puff and blow your house down", with women taking what they want by force instead of with feminine grace. It's in the name of feminism to be feminine so why have we taken feminism to mean we must be men in order to be equal to men?

I am a feminist and I am proud to be a woman. I am proud to be a wife someday. I am proud to hopefully mother children and cook them meals and clean up their messes. I am also proud to be on the track to obtain a doctorate. I am proud to have the dream to be a member of a government agency. I am proud to make a difference, with the grace of a woman.

From,

Your Feminine Feminist

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

19 Lessons I'll Never Forget from Growing Up In a Small Town

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
