Do I believe Dean Saxton, locally known as "Brother Dean," performs these opinion raising protests solely for attention? Absolutely.
Does it still make what he is preaching okay? I would argue not, and urge you to think the same.
For those of you unaware, Tuesday, Feb. 16, University of Arizona students found Dean Saxton wearing a "Virgin Pride" shirt holding a large white sign explicitly saying "You Deserve Rape." As this poster clearly received a lot of attention, what more is Brother Dean holding back from saying?
Not only is Dean Saxton clearly the most disliked student on campus, but his most recent protest did not help him gain any new friends either, for people are now arguing he has gone all too far.
In a mini-documentary published earlier this year, he is featured explaining that any woman who dresses provocatively and drinks alcohol is subject to and at "blame for rape."
What's also bothersome to female students is that a female colleague who goes by the name "Sinless Sarah" stood by his side urging that women deserve rape. Is it ironic that this protest was the same day as Arizona's sexual assault awareness event? I don't think so.
Deliberately trying to cause a riot, Saxton preaches in front of Heritage Hill, right next to our administration building. I remember these protests as long as I've been a student here, and all the discomfort he's caused students on campus.
He urges to "forgive rapists," for it's the fault of sorority girls and other "shorts and tight pant wearing females." As a member of the Alpha Phi sorority on campus, I speak for everyone when I say sexual assault can not, and is not related to the fact we wear tank tops on hot Arizona days where the temperatures exceed 85 degrees.
I normally don't give into the havoc he wreaks on our school, but when he pointed at my head saying "your dad is ashamed of you," I felt morally obligated to post a reaction article. I am a business student as well as pursuing another major in Global Studies after finishing my minor earlier this year. My accomplishments have made my dad very proud of me and wearing a dress that doesn't touch my ankles doesn't hold back any of that love he has for me.
Then again, Brother Dean wakes up thinking the only interaction he has with people is negative, and you can find him struggling in the video when asked if he could name off one of his friends. So that statement alone takes back any thought I ever had thought I was subject to all these terrible things women deserve.
The University of Arizona has called campus security and other forms of police to stand by his protests for his safety. What measures can go to the rest of the student body's sake to attend class in peace? There is currently a change.org petition with nearly 1,000 supporters to get him kicked out of the university after all the pain and suffering he's caused our campus.
You can find Brother Dean on campus also yelling that "yoga pants are sin" etc. "all Muslims are pedophiles" as well as urging people to "stop listening to Miley Cyrus."
