From Feline to Flying: The Katy Perry Story

There is no doubt that Katy Perry's 2015 Super Bowl halftime show had it all: tigers, sharks, and flames, oh my! There have been mixed reviews on her performance, but I for one thought that girl was fierce, albeit bizarre (in typical Perry fashion).

As Perry started off the show with a performance of colored ball-toting interpretive dancers, nobody could decide how it was going to end up. But it quickly gave way to my personal favorite part of the show: fire and a giant metallic tiger. Perry, clad in Katniss Everdeen-style flames, sung "Roar" atop the strutting tiger (raising the question of how she even stayed on top of that thing in those stilettos--cause that's a secret I want to know). This was by far my favorite scene (see the gloriousness of the tiger above), but it didn't last long, because she still had eight other songs and two more outfit changes to get through.

She then rolled into "Dark Horse" on a visually-challenging (and stunning) mirror-chess board with dancing chess pieces.

Then, it was time for the oldie-but-goodie "I Kissed A Girl" with Lenny Kravitz. We were all impressed by those killer dance moves and the jumps she was doing while wearing heels. I personally won't ever, ever, ever be able to do that, so here's to you, Katy. Ya killed it.

Then, the show went on to "Teenage Dream" and "California Gurls," but I think what we all really...um...loved...here were the dancing sharks. I don't think I was the only one who was a bit uncomfortable (confused? unsettled?) with them just...bouncing...and staring... Yeah. But who knew that they would have such killer dance moves? I sure didn't. And I wasn't surprised to see Perry with such actually-very-ridiculous theatrics.

Bonus: you can find out which dancing shark you are in this classic BuzzFeed quiz:

Following those marvelous and talented sharks was "Get Your Freak On", "Work It", and "Lose Control" with Missy Elliott, who was sort of a disappointment for a lot of people. There was a lot of hype -- even from Perry herself -- that the mysterious guest performer would blow people's minds, but...Missy Elliot? Really? Her last hit was about seven years ago, and I can hardly remember last month's top hits. Meh. This part could have been better, but all was forgiven when KP was lifted aloft in "Firework". (Kudos for not falling/vomiting/straight up dying from those heights, Katy).

All in all (maybe minus the sharks), her performance was over-the-top, theatrical, and just awesome. It was the perfect Super Bowl halftime show, and I preferred it to Kim K's selfies by a long shot.

And apparently Katy knew she was that good and never wanted to forget this glorious moment. So she got a tattoo. I mean, wouldn't you?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
