Reminiscing on Homecoming Week

Homecoming week sure is a time to be alive. You are always on the go, never a moment to stop and think. However, it may have been the most memorable experience you've had at Alabama yet. Here are five feelings you experienced during this rollercoaster of a week:

1. You felt your thumbs slowly deteriorating.

Yes, that's right, deteriorating. You spent countless hours rolling sheets of tissue into little balls known as "pomps." You may or may not have accidentally started pomping a straw wrapper in a restaurant because of muscle memory... After you and your sorority have made a few thousand of these, you glue them onto a sketch revealing a beautiful mosaic that looks something like this:

2. Your competitive edge went from 0 to 100, real quick.

You were at your sorority's sporting events screaming until you lost your voice. No ticket? No problem. Watching and cheering through the windows is just as effective... right? Every night you and your friends' faces were painted with glitter and your greek letters. You wore your jersey with pride and sweated whether you were playing or cheering. You may or may not have developed blisters on your index fingers from your shaker... You tried using colored hair spray and it wouldn't wash out. That is the definition of dedication, ladies. This was war.

3. You are sick of seeing boys in the sorority house.

Even though they were there to help with the week, you were sick of them. You wanted to walk into the house and see all your friends, not all of these cute boys. In the morning, all you wanted to do was walk into the house dressed in your pajamas, eat some Lucky Charms, and not see the male species before the hour of 10 AM. It was too much testosterone.

4. Before that week, you didn’t know the definition of tired.

Between all of these events and your studies, there was no way you got the recommended 8 hours of rest. It was seven days full of blood, sweat, tears, and coffee.

5. You love your sorority and the University of Alabama with all your heart

All of your decisions have pointed you in the right direction. This week was tough, to say the least, but it was so rewarding. You bonded with your pledge sisters and discovered what the hype about being in a sorority is. You now know that you're exactly where you're supposed to be. In addition, you realized your school is the best one out there. Roll Tide.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
