The second week of the semester has come and gone (at an incredibly slow pace), and you’ve probably felt one, if not all, of these emotions during it. The second week slump is almost as bad as the sophomore slump, but so much easier to get out of. A majority of students feel six different feelings and emotions during the second week, and it can make or break your outlook on the upcoming semester.
1. Positivity
Most people have this feeling during the first two weeks of classes. They feel great about the semester and think that it’ll be the best semester they’ve ever had. They may be right, and they may be wrong, but these people can be the best or worst people you’ve met. Their positivity will either lift you up or annoy you because you’re already over it. But hey, with a more positive attitude, the better and happier you’ll be.
2. Motivation
It’s only the second week of classes, so you’re probably still feeling motivated about doing well in your classes. You have that “this semester is going to be great” vibe going, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
3. Exhaustion
Even though you’re two weeks in, you’re beyond exhausted. Professors have started to assign work and it seems to just pile up. You have a lot of assignments due on the same day, and it’s a lot of pressure. Take a power nap and get back to work.
4. Uncertainty
Maybe you took a full load of classes or are just considered a full-time student, but everyone has this feeling during their college career. You begin to question almost every decision from choosing your major to your classes to clubs/sports. Don’t doubt yourself and what you can do even if you feel iffy about some things.
5. Overwhelmed
This is one of the most common feelings you can have during college. You can feel overwhelmed by anything and it can either bring you down or push you harder. If you feel overwhelmed, try your hardest not to procrastinate because it’s so hard to catch back up.
6. Defeat
So the second week slump has hit you hard and you’re already over your classes. This is just the second week, so sometimes it’ll be better and some will be worse. Don’t give up just yet; you’ve got a while before the semester is over.
Don't let the second week effect how you look on this semester. You have so many other weeks that cancel out the second week. There's only 12 more weeks until the semester is over (not including spring break), and this is just one of the 15 you have. The second week slump comes and goes without you realizing it too much.
