I recently turned 21 and you know what? I'm feeling it. Most teenagers can't wait to turn 21. It's like the golden number. Mainly this reason is because you are legally allowed to purchase alcohol. While you're young it sounds like the coolest thing ever, but really, that's not even the cool part.
The nice part about being 21 is the feeling that I'm young enough to take on the world and still old enough to be wise enough to make my your own choices. This is ultimately the time where our parents take a slow step back and say,"It is time to fly."
Being 21, you know you will make mistakes but that's not who you truly are. At this age you have the ability to to try anything and everything while still having time to learn better. This of course doesn't mean you don't have to be accountable for your actions; it just means that the world is big and it is OK to explore.
People may look at turning 21 or being 21 as a drinking thing when really it's about a living thing. This is the age where we can truly start to be the people we want to be.
This is where we start thinking of all the possibilities in life. Which may sound overwhelming at first, but it is a huge relief. Nothing is set in stone.
You can love whoever you want and be whoever you want. What is greater than that? When I think of being 21 I see someone who is able to make a difference in the world. I see someone who can let her voice be heard and no longer be afraid.
Being 21 is so much more than parties and drinking into the wee hours of the morning. Being 21 is a new start, a new beginning if you will. Personally, I feel as though these next few years will be the golden years. Not to say that in my 30's I won't try to do great things, but in my 20's it is the start of doing great and exciting things.
When you first turn 20 people still kind of view you as a child. A child who should know better than to make mistakes, yet not old enough to "truly know" what to do with their life. Though I do disagree with this because I still want the same things I did a year ago, and some of you may too. However, the year difference can be drastic. Now legally you are able to make so many choices. You can legally buy your own drinks at the bar or choose to do the things your parents may not always approve of. For me it's napping during the day. Their are worse things I could be doing but, hey parents, right?
Yes, when you are 18 you can make most of your decisions on your own. The thing is, though, that there are still things you cannot do and the fact that teen is still in the word eight-teen does not help either. The thing is that at 21 you are either working or in college, making important life goals.
At 21, for some reason, everyone looks at you as an adult. A young adult, but still an adult. But this can be scary, because who wants to adult? It is also amazing and freeing to know that you are now able to make your own choices with or without parental guidance.
