There are times in life when problems seem abundant, regardless of the human state they appear in. Sometimes the obstacles in front of us may be physical, but many times life’s largest obstacles affect people mentally and emotionally. When perils shift from the outside world to occupy space in a person’s inside world, it tends to feel suffocating. Maintaining the willpower to take steps forward becomes so hard. Life can become so suffocating that breathing becomes heavy as if weights are constantly being placed on your chest. It’s at these times that even the biggest of personalities feel extremely small. But being small does not mean one is weak.
Many people like to go out and see the stars to remember how much bigger the universe is than any present problems. The bigger the entirety of the universe is, the smaller problems become until they can be compartmentalized away, however, the problem is still present. Making problems seem small won’t make them easier to handle because in that one moment, breathing becomes a bit easier but step away and it’s heavy again. The vastness of the universe and space isn’t a sign of how small individuals are; in fact it can be the exact opposite.
On an immense canvas of black stars are delicately strewn across and stare long enough and the mind remembers how far those small lights are. Thinking of the distance in comparison to the size of a human body immediately reminds one of how small they are in the grand scheme. Yes, the universe is much larger than you, but that largeness is made up of small pieces. The stars, the planets, the galaxy and what is beyond that is most definitely large, but it is made up of the smallest pieces and would not exist without them. The real strength lies within the small parts, it lies within us. Going as small as a subatomic particle, well frankly without that nothing would exist. No matter how large the universe may be, it can only be that big because it is made up of very important small pieces. Knowing how small a human being is in the grand scheme shouldn’t make problems seem small, but rather take away the fear they bring. Whatever the problem may be, no matter how dire or painful, it can never take away the value a person holds within the universe.
Nothing can take away your value to the universe.
When life is pushing and making it so you can’t breathe, just remember how small you are and how important you are. Sit back and know that you are that special. Take the weights off of your chest and take a smoother breath.
Feeling small is a reminder of just how big you actually are.
