Keeping up with my newly implemented theme of each month's 'simple pleasures,' here is a list of small but beautiful things to enjoy about February.

1. Valentine's Day

This one is obvious, but the article wouldn't be complete without it. No other month has a holiday dedicated entirely to love and romance. Named after St. Valentine (more than one, actually), the holiday recognizes the Valentines' martyrdom as influential members of the Catholic church. While Valentine's day has a slightly darker, more complex history than you might have thought, it has evolved to be the sweetest day of the year (both literally and figuratively).

2. Black History Month

This one goes beyond being a 'simple pleasure,' which means it is most definitely worth a mention. This dedication is not meant to confine the celebration of black history to just one month a year but is meant to encourage mindfulness about the amazing contributions of African American citizen, both throughout history and in the present day.

3. The Amethyst

Each month of the year has a particular birthstone associated with it, the properties of which, some believe, can have a positive effect on one's physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. The amethyst is said to contain cleansing properties which help heal the nervous system and prevent drunkenness and overindulgence.

4. The Violet

Not only does each month have a birthstone, but a flower as well. February's flower is the violet. While most might argue the rose would be more fitting, the violet has the perfect symbolism for the month of February. Violets represent loyalty, sincerity, and the purest form of love.

5. Rosé

As I did for January, I've decided each month should have an associated drink as well. I feel no drink better encompasses the spirit of February than rosé- light pink, bubbly, and sweet.

6. Ambiance

When I say ambiance, this doesn't have to be a trail of rose petals leading to a frilly bedroom (although it can). I am referring to the generally rosy and relaxed atmosphere commonly found during the second month of the year- soft lighting, bouquets, drapery, little valentines, and delicate decor.

7. Pampering

'Tis the season for relaxation and being spoiled. Whether you're being pampered by your S.O. or just want to treat yourself, February should be full of spa days, cuddling, comfy clothes, manicures, flowers, sweets, and treats.

8. It's An Early Spring!

This year, on February 2nd, the Punxsutawney Phil the groundhog did not see his shadow. According to legend, that means we'll have an early spring!

9. Classic Winter Weather

Though spring is on the way, February still a pretty cold month. But instead of the crisp, frosty winter weather of January, I associate February with classic, fluffy and powdery white snow. Plus, the slightest chill is an excuse to go home, snuggle up with a blanket, and watch a movie.

10. Short and Sweet

Not only is February full of chocolates and tasty pastries, but it is also the shortest month of the year. So if all the cliché romanticism isn't really thing, don't worry. It'll all be over soon.

Hopefully this list has inspired you to admire all the lovely things about February, whether that's with your partner or by being happily single.

Ps: Shoutout to all Aquarius' and Pisces!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
