Music feeds the mind

My February Playlist

A month ago I wrote an article about the music I was currently listening to and it was probably one of my favorites. I love writing about music since it plays such an important role in my life. Music helps me in so many ways that nobody else can. Every month I create a new playlist of favorite music and since I shared last month's favorites, I decided to do it again with a whole new lineup. As always, don't judge each song by its artist or title! Here are my favorite songs I have been listening to this February.

1. Bom Bidi Bom- Nick Jonas & Nicki Minaj

This was one heck of a wait. The moment I found out about this collaboration I just couldn't contain myself. It's finally here and I couldn't be happier. I may not have seen 50 Shades Darker, but this soundtrack is everything I ever needed. Never in a million years would I think Nick Jonas and Nicki Minaj would do a song together but it's just what everyone needed...or at least what I needed.

2. That's What I Like- Bruno Mars

I will never get over this album. I am actually very obsessed with the album as a whole but I am currently loving this song. Bruno Mars will forever be one of my favorite artists. I don't know whether it's his amazing vocals or that great beat in the background that draws me to this song, but I love it. I can't help but at least bob my head the second I hear this song start.

3. Weak- AJR

Now my opinion on this song is so weird. I feel the lyrics are kind of...sucky? Though at the same time I can't help but absolutely love this song! It's so ridiculously catchy. It's honestly impossible to hate this song.

4. I Feel It Coming- The Weeknd ft. Daft Punk

This song is still fairly new so there's no music video or lyric video so I had to link his performance at the Grammys, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't still enjoy this song. Something about this song gives me Michael Jackson vibes and I am hooked. The Weeknd never fails to bring out a new hit.

5. Touch- Nick Jonas

If I am being completely honest, I've been listening to this since summer but I haven't stopped loving it! Nick's music will always have a special place in my poor little Jonas Brothers heart. I will forever be sad over the breakup of the Jobros, but I can't say I am not enjoying Nick and Joe's solo career. I feel like I am getting twice the amount of music now that they're solo and honestly, I can't be mad about it.

6. Beauty and the Beast- Ariana Grande and John Legend

I am so unbelievably excited for Beauty and the Beast to come out and this song just made it ten times more exciting. Beauty and the Beast is up there with one of my favorite Disney movies and to hear two talented artists that I love cover a song from the movie really warms my heart. Just all the feels listening to this.

7. I Don't Wanna Live Forever(acoustic)- Zayn

If you don't know, I'd be surprised if you didn't, there's a song Zayn and Taylor Swift sing for 50 Shades Darker called 'I Don't Wanna Live Forever.' If I am being honest, I am really not the biggest fan of Taylor, but the second I heard Zayn's acoustic version of this song I immediately became obsessed. This song has so much more meaning slowed down and so raw. Ten out of ten.

8. Pity Party- Melanie Martinez

If you have no idea who Melanie Martinez is, then please look her up. This song is such a unique twist on 'It's My Party and I Cry If I Want To.' Honestly, I'd rather listen to this version during my party than the original. There's just something about Melanie's style that's unlike most artists.

9. Dirty Laundry- Blackbear

Oh, Blackbear. How I wish more people knew your music. I wouldn't be surprised if you became the next big artist within the next year. You have so much talent and this is definitely a catchy song you would hear on the radio. Fingers crossed!

10. Somebody Else- The 1975

I never really listened to The 1975 until this past year and something about this song makes me wanna listen to it on repeat. This is one of those songs that I just put on repeat every time I shower. If you don't really know the 1975 and you aren't the biggest fan of this song then I highly recommend cruising youtube for other's because The 1975 has a slot of different music. I also think this is one of those bands that any generation can listen to. It's very modern yet sounds like it's from the late 80's. Definitely my favorite indie rock group I have heard in awhile.

11. It Ain't Me- Kygo and Selena Gomez

This song is very...wow. I mean I can't help but think this is some serious Justin Bieber shade, but it almost makes this song better. I love Selena and I love Justin, but something about them writing songs about one another really gets me. This song is quite comical and it's a very different style from Selena's usual. Thank you Kygo for joining Selena in this and making such a catchy song.

12. Bad 4 Us- Superfruit

I watch a lot of youtube and I mean A LOT. These are two YouTubers who a channel called Superfruit. Don't recognize the channel name? Maybe you have heard of Pentatonix? This is two of the members from the acapella group Pentatonix and it's just so cute. I also love the animation music video how it's almost like you are watching a little romance video game. Hope there's more music to come from the two of them.

13. Thumbs- Sabrina Carpenter

Sabrina Carpenter has a beautiful voice that I will never get over. Her voice is so powerful for her age. Out of all the music she has come out with, this is probably my favorite. Since the start of Girl Meets World to now, she has grown to be such a talented girl and I can't wait to hear the music that she has to come.

14. a love song/a non love song- Jon Cozart and Dodie

This is another set of YouTubers that I watch. Dodie and Jon are known for covers and a few self-written songs. Long story short, this song was written separately and all they had to go off of was a melody and when they came together this is what it sounded like. One is a love song and the other isn't, yet they sound so beautiful together. While they aren't technically professional musicians, I can only hope one they are.

15. Moonlight- Ariana Grande

Who doesn't love Ariana? She seems to always have a new hit every week and while I love all of her hits, I feel like this song needs some more recognition. This song reminds me a lot of her older music. It's soft and slow with very little music leaving her powerful voice to take over. Ariana will definitely be around for awhile and the fact that she still makes music like she has from the beginning is almost a relief? I love her newer music, but something about her older music really takes me back to my teen years. Not sure if that's a good thing, but I wanna say it is!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
