What is your major? What do you plan to do with it? Where do you want to live? The questions from people seem to never end, and sometimes it is okay to not have an answer. Sometimes I feel like I need to have my life perfectly planned out, but that is impossible and unrealistic. Plans are always altered, and often what we think is best does not turn out that way.
Not knowing what your exact plan is can be scary, but I have faith that God will lead me on the path I am meant to follow. Jeremiah 29:11 says "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." In the end, everything will work out according to God’s plan, but in the meantime, putting our hope and trust in him can make the journey so much easier. Because of my relationship with God, I have learned to be more patient and not worry as much about what I am meant to do. In time, I will discover more of my passions and let the spirit lead me in the right direction.
Going into college, I was confident in my plan to go to medical school and become a physician. One day I realized that being a doctor was not going to make me happy, and I determined that physical therapy suited me much better. Now I am considering the idea of performing research. Whenever I think I know the plan for sure, little variations arise and I realize that I do not really know for sure. The unknown is scary, but it reminds me of a gift: something meaningful and great that has not yet been revealed to you.
Proverbs 16:3 says "Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans." Even when you feel discouraged and like nothing is working out, have faith that God has a plan for your life, and believe that you were created for a unique purpose. Even when you feel like you are in the darkness, light will eventually come at the end of the tunnel. God makes the unknown less scary. "Don’t mistake God’s patience for His absence. His timing is perfect, and His presence is constant. He’s always with you." Deuteronomy 31:6.
Rather than feeling intimidated by the unknown, I am excited, and you should be too! I am excited to see where I end up going to graduate school. I am excited to see where I end up working, who I marry, where I live, where I travel. I have faith and hope in what is unseen, and confidence that my life will unfold exactly the way it is meant to.
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths." Proverbs 3:5-6.
