Fear? Ain't nobody got time for that!
How do we get to a point where we can apply Sweet Brown's famous line, "Ain't nobody got time for that," to how we respond to fear?
I am going to back up a little bit- ever since sin entered this world, we have be struggling with fear. It is human to feel fear, and it is totally OK. I don't want this to come across that if you feel fear you will go to hell- no! But what I do want to stress in this post, is that because of Jesus, we do not have to partner with fear.
Everywhere we look we can find someone fearing or something to fear about.
What about that next door neighbor who was just widowed and is fearful that she won't be able to provide her needs?
What about all those policemen who are having to deal with hard times? Do you think their families have experienced any fear?
How about the husband and wife who have been praying for a baby- but are fearful it may never happen?
And then their is that high school senior who is feeling the pressure of picking the best college, and is fearful of what people may think of their decision.
Fear can be found anywhere. I know that this is not how God intended it. For some people fear has become something that controls, destroys and hinders their everyday life.
But,
There is great news. We are NOT made to fear. We are NOT supposed to fear.
Yeah, yeah, I know what you are thinking, "that is easier said than done."
I AGREE!
When we are constantly being bombarded with "fearful situations". Or we see other people giving into being afraid, it can be hard to not fall into the very same thing.
But that is why we can find our strength in the Lord to combat those feelings. We can stand up and say, "No! I believe my God has got this!".
The Bible clearly says: "I will fear no evil for you are with me." There is never a time that we are on our own.
Recently my family faced a small bump in the road. This bump had all the qualifications to let fear have it's way. While I was processing what was going on, I realized how powerful Jesus is, and no matter what would happen- fear still does not need to be felt. Sure, at times worry would hit me, or a thought would rush in, but I would remember who is in control. Even if the worst case scenario were to transpire- God is still in control, and He still has a bigger plan than any human can see.
Why do we sometimes not see God's bigger plan in sad, scary happenings? Well, I believe a big reason is because we partner with fear! We feel fear, and let it become what we think. It effects our continence, actions and thoughts. When we choose to give into these feelings, we start to perform out of fear, rather than faith.
God never called us to fear, but He did call us to faith.
So next time a fearful situation pops up- remember who is bigger- remember that their is victory in it! Don't be blind to what God is doing by fear, but be fully alive in His power through faith!
So, when that feeling of fear starts tapping inside, take what the Word of God says and fear no evil, and also be like Sweet Brown and say "Ain't nobody got time for that!"
"Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for You are with me; Your rod and staff they comfort me."- Psalm 23:4
"... "Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are Mine." - Isaiah 43:1
" I sought the LORD and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears." - Psalm 34:4
