No one can really describe the bond between a father and daughter. It’s just one of those special bonds that is there and understood by everyone. For me, my dad is my best friend and the first person I go to with any and all of my problems, ideas and concerns.
He’s the person I call when I’m having a good day, as well as the person I call when I’m having a terrible day. The person I talk to when something in my car is making a funny noise. The person I yell to when there is a spider in the basement. The person who, despite having five daughters and a wife who objected, managed to teach us the importance of a burping contest.
The man who taught all of us what it meant to truly love someone and showed us that by loving our mom with such an extreme passion, I saw it work miracles. The man who, quite literally, never takes a day off — he is probably the only person I know to never complain about working countless jobs or not having a day to sit down, relax and do nothing.
The person who gave up all kinds of things like nice cars and job promotions to spend more time with his family and provide them with the things they needed. He’s the man who would take the shirt off of his back and give it to someone in need. He’s the man who stops to help elderly people, and has even wound up in the ER because of it. He’s the man who saves people on a daily basis, not just because his job requires him to, but because he’s just an amazing and caring person. He’s the dad who never lets a day go by without telling his daughters how much he loves them or how important they are to him. He's the grandpa that doesn't get mad over handprints on the windows or sticky kisses. The father-in-law that sets a good example for how he expects his daughters and grandkids to be treated.
Thank you, Dad, for being the person I know I can count on for anything. Not many girls can say that their dad is their best friend, but I feel so incredibly lucky to call you exactly that. Thank you for loving God and Mom, and my sisters and I. You truly are the greatest man I know, and I love you so much!
