What Your Favorite Song By The Killers Says About You
Metro Lyrics

Unless you have been living under a rock since 2003, you have probably heard of The Killers. After all, they're one of the most successful bands of the 21st century. With an international fan base, over 22 million albums sold, and a name for themselves in genres such as alternative rock and new wave, they're hard to miss.

Around 2010, the band announced that they were taking a break, leaving fans — for lack of a better word — shook. Thankfully, a higher power answered millions of prayers and blessed us with their return in 2011, which was accompanied by their fifth studio album, Battle Born, in 2012.

Fast track to Wednesday, June 14th, 2017. Any musically cultured swine knows this was the day The Killers dropped the first single from their newest album since Battle Born, both of which is titled "The Man." If you haven't been blessed by it yet, listen to it here.

To celebrate the return of my favorite band, and their (forgive me) killer new sound, I compiled their best songs and analyzed what your favorites might say about you. You're welcome. (I am very much aware that the context for many of these songs has a deeper meaning, I'm just using humor in my favor.)

1. "Mr. Brightside" (Hot Fuss)

You’re the older sibling and are a straight up classic. When you walk in a room you’re everyone’s friend and know how to BUMP. Side note, if this is your favorite song by The Killers odds are you haven’t taken the time to listen to their other stuff. I highly recommend reading the rest of this list to culture yourself. Other than that, just remember it was only a kiss –– it was only a kiss.

2. "Smile Like You Mean It" (Hot Fuss)

You’re also into the classics. You’re in the transition between youth and growing up, but you save some face because you know, biologically, you only have one.

3. "All These Things That I've Done" (Hot Fuss)

You’re a golden-hearted boy/girl who hates being put on the back burner. You also like ultimatums such as, “you got to help me out, you’re gonna bring yourself down.”

4. "Somebody Told Me" (Hot Fuss)

You’re persistent in the sense where you break your back just to know someone’s name. You’ve got potential, and don’t you forget it.

5. "When You Were Young" (Sam's Town)

You often find yourself in a constant state of heartache, sitting and waiting. Waiting for what, you ask? Well obviously for a beautiful boy to save you, but remember he does not look like Jesus. Unless you’re into that kind of thing.

6. "Read My Mind" (Sam's Town)

You have a lot on your mind and you desperately want someone to take notice. Odds are you’re on the corner of Main Street, in a two-star town with magic soaking your spine. @BrandonFlowers, please explain that line.

7. "For Reasons Unknown" (Sam's Town)

You don’t have a reason for anything, and your heart doesn’t beat the way it used too. On top of that, your eyes can’t recognize anyone anymore. You’re also kind of sad and make people (me) cry.

8. "Shadowplay" (Sawdust)

You’re funkier than the rest, but everyone loves you just the same. There was that one time you were waiting and searching for someone, and finally, you found the truth in a room without a window in the corner. You also like to take other people’s stuff to put your own twist on it.

9. "Human" (Day & Age)

You’re often confused as to whether or not you’re a human or a dancer. Which seems a little off, but people go with it.

10. "Spaceman" (Day & Age)

All in all, you’re a trip with a strange impression in your head. You know you’re fine but you also have a star maker, a dream maker and a spaceman telling you three different things, which must be tough to deal with. Pro-tip: it’s all in your mind.

11. "I Can't Stay" (Day & Age)

You’re super ‘lax with an easy-breezy vibe, brah. However, you just can’t stay anywhere, especially in the dark.

12. "Runaways" (Battle Born)

You have a tendency to slip when nights get wild…dare I say flighty? You also enjoy stargazing and talking about dreams. Super deep. Regardless, you love hard and you know that when you meet the one you’re not gonna let them run away.

13. "The Way It Was" (Battle Born)

You also have a tendency to make people (me) cry. Darling, odds are you messed up, and you’re outside the Esmeralda County line being nostalgic as HECK. I mean, who could forget those golden nights?

14. "Just Another Girl" (Direct Hits (compilation))

You always try to convince yourself that you’re better off alone, but we both know that’s called repression. You’re easily influenced by your friends who tell you to move on, and you didn’t reply to Jason’s wedding. Maybe you just need new friends?

15. "The Man" (The Man)

You’re the new kid in town and have some serious spunk. I mean…you have gas in the tank and money in the bank, which is more than I can say for myself. You’re bringing cool back and everyone’s excited to see what else you have to offer.

Do these sound like you or someone you know? Share this list with the biggest Killers fan in your life. Maybe Brandon will see this, or maybe not. Regardless, I'm always happy to share my love for this band. Rock on.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
