It's here! Girl Scout Cookie Season is finally upon us! That means girl scouts posted outside every shopping mall on Saturday mornings, relatives of girl scouts passing around an order sheet, and the genuine shock and horror that comes from choosing how many boxes you could should eat. Everyone has their favorite though, and it could just say a lot about you.
1. Thin Mints
Oh, I see you. Most "Girl Scout" flavored items take after the thin mints signature chocolate mint goodness. Soft on the inside and coated in chocolate, you're probably a hoarder of those mints from Olive Garden too. If Thin Mints are your favorite, you probably know that they are much better in the freezer and you save at least a few for those warmer spring days. Like yourself, Thin Mints are a classic.
2. Do-Si-Do's/ Peanut Butter Sandwiches
The name might be different depending on where you live, but these creamy, crunchy, and nutty cookies are one of my all time favorites. These are a cult favorite of picky eaters because let's be real, who doesn't love peanut butter? You probably stick in your very specific cookie lane, maybe sometimes branching out for a Peanut Butter Patty, but the PBS (Peanut Butter Sandwich) is just too good to be compared to. Biting into its crunchy exterior to find the smooth peanut butter center is just heavenly.
3. Shortbread/ Trefoils
If you had to buy Girl Scout cookies for a friend and you had no idea what kind they wanted, this would be the box to choose. Trefoils are the OG cookie, the ones that never let you down. Lovers of their sugary, buttery goodness know what they want. There are two types of shortbread lovers: 1) Those that are too picky to eat anything except for these plain Janes, and 2) Intelligent people who have learned that Trefoils come with ending pairing possibilities. You can top them with chocolate, dip them in peanut butter, or my new favorite pairing: nutella. Shortbread cookies are a classic for a reason, everyone can love them.
4. Peanut Butter Patties/ Tagalongs
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that people who choose Tagalongs are the most indulgent of all the buyers. They want everything in their cookie and they want it now. Why get just a chocolate cookie or just a peanut butter cookie when you can have both? Most people don't know this but Tagalongs are actually the best selling cookie from my personal experience. Coated in chocolate with a peanut butter center, Tagalongs are for anyone who loves Reese's but wants a little more crunch. You can trust anyone who is holding a box of Tagalongs because everyone knows that these are the best cookie in the game.
5. Caramel deLites/ Samoas
If Caramel deLites are your favorite then you've most likely gotten into a complete war over what they are actually called. Because the Girl Scouts has two different bakers, the name can change depending on where you are. To me they will NEVER be Samoas, but I've decided to let it go if someone calls them by that weirdo name. Caramel deLites are another classic. The iconic purple box and the chocolate drizzled coconut cookies are everywhere during cookie season. People who like Samoas Caramel deLites are anything but ordinary. You have to be willing to think outside the box to choose a cookie with coconut, caramel, and chocolate all in one. If you like Caramel deLites you should try the newest addition to the lineup: Toffee-tastic.
6. Toffee-tastic
These gluten free cookies are a new addition this year but will blow your socks off. If these are your favorite, you either hate gluten or just love a sugary, buttery cookie. These cookies are like a fluffier version of shortbreads with little bits of "toffee" added to them. They are so rich and delicious that it only takes about one or two to satisfy me. Lovers of Toffee-tastic are willing to try new things, just like the Girl Scouts are.
7. Lemonades/ Savannah Smiles
These cookies are not the same but both have the same main ingredient of lemon. People who choose these lemony cookies are generally just happy people. It is nearly impossible to bite into a Savannah Smiles without smiling yourself; I think it's the powdered sugar coating. Lemonades are more of a "cookie" than Savannah Smiles, giving it more of a crunch. Whichever one is your favorite, lemon lovers are kind-hearted and they know what they want.
8. Thanks-A-Lot
If you don't know what these are then you are unfortunate enough to live in an area without these cookies: my personal favorite. Thanks-A-Lot's are like shortbread cookies times 1000. They are sugar cookies with one side completely dipped in creamy milk chocolate. Each cookie also comes with "Thank You," written on them in many different languages. Growing up, I knew how to say Thank You in German, French, and Japanese. Merci! If you ever are lucky enough to get your hands on these amazing cookies, pick up as many as you can carry.
9. Rah-Rah Raisins
Fans of oatmeal raisin cookies can now rejoice that these exist. Rah-Rah-Raisins are full of yummy oatmeal, sweet raisins, and greek yogurt chunks that taste just like white chocolate. Fans of these cookies are fun, exciting, and kind-hearted. It takes a very special person to want raisins in their cookies. Once you fall in love with them, there is no other cookie out there like it. Don't let them break your heart by missing out on them this year.
10. No Cookies at all.
Who are you? Grumpy Cat? An alien? Get out of here with that crazy talk.
No matter what box you choose this year, know that when you buy a box of Girl Scout cookies you are doing much more than that. You are teaching girls business skills, goal setting, and people skills all rolled up into one. My cookie sales are what sent me to Girl Scout camp every summer, and what made me the most popular kid at church come cookie season. With Girl Scout cookies, everyone wins. You get a delicious box of goodness and the girls get so many things that money can't buy.
