Faulty Little Life

A poem about how fault and forgiveness are often too tricky

Faulty Little Life
Life to be Continued

We were only human and we made mistakes

And like always we made up and forgave

But the journey to forgiveness was always strange and faulty

You say you're sorry because you messed up

You broke a promise, you hurt my feelings

You say you're sorry cause you feel bad about what you did

I'm upset with you because you messed up

I was lied to, I got my feelings hurt

I am upset with you because you should feel bad for what you did

You are upset, sad and angry at yourself

You hate that you did it again

You hate that you hurt me again

You hate that you could have handled it better

You hate that despite your words you broke your promises

I hate that you did it again

I hate that you hurt me again

I hate that you know how to treat me well and didn't

I hate that despite everything I believed your words and fell for it again

You apologize again and again

I listen again and again

And then I think

You are upset

You are sad

You are unhappy

And I want you to not be

Just like that I forgive and I do the unthinkable

I take the blame

I apologize for the situation

I beg for forgiveness

I can't bear to see you unhappy so I make myself the culprit

I must have overreacted

I must have been too harsh

I must have be the one to take the blame because it means you'll stop being sad

And strangely enough that's both love and foolishness

But you know better

You don't take the easy route to forgiveness

You accept that you made a mistake

You make sure I know that you are guilty

You make sure that I don't blame myself for the situation

And strangely enough that's both love and foolishness

In the end, we're both at fault somewhere

And we're both innocent somewhere else

The world is how it is because we make it so

Its faults are our faults

And our faults are its fault.

What a faulty way of life.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
