"You can't get married until you're 40," my dad used to tell me when I was little. I would always roll my eyes and just laugh it off, but the older I've gotten, the more that statement means to me. I've realized that the relationship I have with my daddy is one of the most important relationships I will ever have. He's the person who has to tell my future husband that he's allowed to marry me. He's the one who has to walk me down the aisle on that special day and give me away. He's the one who will always be number one in my heart, and no matter what anyone else says, he will always be my first boyfriend.
When I was a child, there used to be a spot right beside my dad where I would fit just perfect. He would hug me, kiss me and make me feel comfortable enough where I would just nod right off to sleep. I've outgrown that spot now, but sometimes manage to find myself trying to fit in it during those times when I just need my daddy. It's those times that I cherish most.
On those days when I have all doubt in myself, he's constantly telling me he believes in me. On those days before I leave the house, he never leaves out a "be careful" and an "I love you." On those days when I don't feel beautiful, he's right there telling me how good I look in what I have on. On those days when I fail a big test, he tells me, "Well, sweetheart, C's get degrees." He never points out a single one of my flaws, and he never fails to give me some kind of encouragement each and every day.
As much as I could go on and on about my father, I know many girls, whatever their situation is, that don't have the privilege of having an earthly father in their life. For those of you who are in that position, I promise that there is a heavenly father who will never leave you and will always love you. Hold tight to His promises. There are going to be days when you feel like He's not there. Trust me, He's closer than you think, and He will protect you.
On this Father's Day, make sure to tell your daddy you love him and thank him for everything he does for you. Make him feel very appreciated not only today, but every day. Having a person to call dad is one of the most rewarding things in life, and I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.
To my daddy,
Thank you for showing me how to love and loving me unconditionally. Thank you for being the godly influence that I need daily in my life and the person who can never fail to make me laugh at any moment. Thank you for staying up late with me just to watch Netflix and eat ice cream. You are my hero, and biased I may be, but I most definitely have the greatest dad in the world!
