There's nothing quite like the relationship between a dad and his daughter. While I recognize that not all girls (or boys for that matter) have dads in their lives, I still think it's important for me to recognize the man I loved first. Besides, who else would take my side in arguments against Mom or stay overnight at freshman orientation by himself or buy me the things Mom says no to? Needless to say, my dad is pretty special. As cliche as it sounds, I really wouldn't be where I am in this stage of my life without him.
When you give a girl a dad, you give her a (seemingly) unbreakable support system.
When you give a girl a dad, you give her a model for what she hopes her husband (someday) will be like.
When you give a girl a dad, you give her never-ending laughs.
When you give a girl a dad, you give her a motivator.
When you give a girl a dad, you give her a lending hand.
When you give a girl a dad, you give her a person who will take interest in her life no matter how boring it gets.
When you give a girl a dad, you give her a protector.
When you give a girl a dad, you give her a man who is willing to watch your favorite shows with.
When you give a girl a dad, you give her her first love.
When you give a girl a dad, you give her a person who will hold the door open for her no matter what.
When you give a girl a dad, you give her a role model.
When you give a girl a dad, you give her a man who wouldn't think twice about risking his life for her.
When you give a girl a dad, you give her an opportunity to max out credit cards.
When you give a girl a dad, you give her a person who won't ever blow you off.
When you give a girl a dad. you give her a reason to try harder and be the best version of herself.
When you give a girl a dad, you give her a best friend for life. And I have to admit, it's pretty damn cool.
To say that I am lucky or fortunate to have the dad I do is doing him a disservice; there aren't enough words in the world that could allow me to express how much I appreciate my dad and everything he's done for me. I won't pretend like he's perfect, because he's not, and neither am I; we get into arguments and disagree on a lot of things. But I know he's always rooting for me and leading me in the direction of what he believes is best for me. He knows me better than I know myself sometimes. I don't tell him enough how much he means to me, so Dad, I know you aren't perfect, but you're the perfect dad for me. Thank you for staying in my life, teaching me to learn from my mistakes, and encouraging me to follow my dreams. I love you!
