Revolve recently teased a new collection with actress Lena Dunham, but before it was even released the entire line was pulled. Why you may ask? It's because Revolve released a shirt that said: Being fat is not beautiful it's an excuse. The company claims in an Instagram post that the intent of this campaign was not to promote these the words said on the shirt, but instead that this should empower women and let them know that even the worlds most successful women have to deal with hurtful words said by internet bullies.

As a plus-sized girl myself, I still found that shirt to be extremely offensive. Revolve has no right putting out a shirt that empowers fat women when they don't even cater to girls of that size. The store itself sells clothing from a size XS-L and the girls that would even be able to buy this shirt would most likely be skinny. If I saw a thin person wearing that shirt then I wouldn't automatically think that they were on my side, I would immediately think that I was being fat shamed.
A lot of people don't have control over how their body is. I personally have tried working out, and dieting but over time I have come to accept that this is how my body is made. If Revolve was really interested in empowering young women, then I would have liked to see them take steps to ensure body positivity, instead of creating a shirt that shamed plus-sized women.
We need more stores that are inclusive to plus-sized women and less that only cater to people of a certain stature. One way to help ensure body positivity is being inclusive to girls of all shapes and sizes.
We need to hold Revolve accountable for their actions. No clothing company should ever sell body shaming clothing, no matter the original intent.
