If you have been keeping up with the Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, then you know about the amazing athletes have participated this year. I however, never really got into the Olympics until this year, and overall I am truly fascinated by the incredible men and women in this competition.
The 2018 Winter Olympics features a number of different competitions like bobsledding, figure skating, skiing, snowboarding and just so many I did not even know about. Athletes from all over the world are all drawn to one place, many dreaming and practicing their entire lives for it.
It is so inspiring hearing their stories, and not to mention I was just stunned by the amount of talent that these people possess. I know the Olympics are the best of the best, but never had I actually fully invested myself into watching how great they are. The way they put themselves into their sport is truly astounding.
I mainly watched the figure skating competitions just because that is when I was able to tune in, and the fact that these skaters win and come back and train harder than before is so amazing. They dedicate their lives to it, and so do the other athletes in other sports.
I was actually on the edge of my seat watching the skater's moves, because they could fall or make a mistake at any moment. But it is so fun and entertaining to watch the chemistry in pair skating, or the passion of solo skaters. From their personalities and techniques to their costumes, they all are so different, but so talented.
They perform such complex moves and choreography all while maintaining such poise, balance, and land with such ease. I could not even comprehend some of the moves they did, and they do it in such a short amount of time, under extreme pressure.
There is so much precision and hard work that goes into all of the sports, and another one I got to watch was women's skiing. So many get injured, but still power through and come back to the Olympics to earn that medal. They are all so strong and great for picking themselves back up and continuing to compete.
There was an athlete, Adam Rippon, from Scranton, PA, which is a place near and dear to my heart because my grandparents lived there for a long time. Rippon just came out literally and figuratively with such passion, such personality and exuberance that made the Olympics this year so exciting, as did other athletes.
I applaud each and every one of the athletes in all competitions, because they are setting examples of what hard work and persistence looks like. They deserve any medal they win, because it sure seems like a lot of work to be there.
