Dear Mr. Jeff Price,
As sad as I am to write this to you, I cannot begin to thank you enough for the amazing memories that Barbecue House has provided us.
For over 35 years, your establishment has been #1 for the best homemade chipped sandwiches, biscuits and gravy, ribs and sweet tea the Auburn/Opelika area will see. Every time I come back into town it has been a tradition to get myself some Barbecue House and I was always sure to bring a friend. We would always joke and say how it's great that this place will never shut down and we will have this special place in Auburn forever but unfortunately, it seems like this is not a joking matter anymore.
Not only will the incredible food you provided be missed, but the irreplaceable sense of the "Auburn Family" that you feel when you come into your establishment. Any time I come to Barbecue house I know that I will be welcomed with a smile and a conversation. That doesn’t happen at any other place in town. Your amazing establishment has become a center for people all over the community because you have such a big heart and love to give back. I cannot begin to count the amount of times you have allowed youth sports teams, churches or other organizations to use your restaurant for a benefit night.
As you mentioned in an an article once, “Auburn is in a huge growth spurt right now where everything is frenzied a little bit,” and you couldn't be more correct in saying that. Auburn is at a point where there is constant construction and development with a huge amount of growth and you've managed to keep a humble and welcoming smile within your walls. We need to take a moment and slow down in life while enjoying some great food. It is just sad that we won’t be able to do it here anymore.
Many people in Auburn and Opelika are sad to see you go, but instead of sorrowful spirits, I hope that they remember the amazing times that you have given us. Whether it be work meetings, catching up with an old friend or even a first date, Barbecue House has provided this community with all of that and then some. It is in our best hope that other opportunities will come up for you to keep Barbecue House open in town, but know that if that path does not work out then we thank you for all the amazing times you have given back to this entire community.
I will be in soon, for one last "Chipped All The Way" and a large sweet tea!
