Farewell Summertime

Goodbye summer time. It was nice seeing you again

Farewell Summertime
Kimberly Olguin

Any time I get a chance to take a vacation from school, I fall into limbo. I love and hate summer, which is why I say I fall into limbo. The fact is I cannot pick between the love or hate because there are things that I happen to adore and things that frustrate me. Like every other story in the world, there are two sides to summer, the good and the bad.

To begin, summertime allows many of us to take time off and take advantage of those days. We could go spend an entire day in the sun whether it be laying on the sandy beaches or exploring a new city. Summer is a time when your skin has a lingering smell of chlorine and sunblock or it might have the scent of smoke from the barbecue on the grill. Everywhere you go, you’ll hear water splashing, children laughing and fans spinning. No matter the time of day, you can expect to see people walking around in summer dresses, swim suits and shorts in attempts to cool down from the intense heat. When you think about it, these are some of the things that make summer fun and memorable.

On the other hand, there are some things that we might dislike about summertime. One of the things that I don’t like about summer is the rapid temperature increase. No matter how low you might put your air conditioner, it will never cool down your living space to a comfortable temperature. If you ever think about going outside in the blistering sun without sunblock, you should expect to find skin that was exposed to the fireball in the sky an alarming shade of red that stings anytime you touch it. But if you managed to avoid getting sunburned and you happened to spend the day outside your cool house, then you might have spent the day at the beach where you gathered sand in many uncomfortable places.

Like there are two sides to a coin, there are two sides to my feelings with summertime. My feelings for summer still stay in limbo and they might always stay in limbo. It is time to say goodbye to the attributes that make summer unforgettable. It might be awhile until we are reunited, but for now I shall say farewell for it is time for us to split until next June. It is now time for me to enter the dark cold world of wintertime. Until next time, farewell beloved summertime.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
