As the school year comes to a close, it is once again time to say a temporary goodbye to our beloved friends. This year not only do I have friends graduating, I also know a number of people transferring to different schools, and some who have decided college is not for them are are dropping out. No matter the reason for your departure, our time together has meant the world to me. To my soon-to-be graduates, the utmost congratulations to you! I'm so proud of you for making it through and am beyond excited to see the amazing things I know your future has in store for you. Although I'm beyond jealous that I still have a few years until I get to where you are, I will not feel left behind. I will not wallow in my own worries, instead, I'll choose to rejoice in your accomplishments and look forward to reaching the same heights you have.
To my friends transferring, I'm happy you've found a place for you to grow. That being said, I will miss you like crazy. College won't be the same without you, especially walking around the campus that holds so many memories of our time together. Thank you for being my friend and making the adjustment away from home with me. Thank you for the crazy nights, lazy days, study sessions, food binges, Netflix/movie marathons and all the fun adventures. Thank you for holding off panic attacks and mental breakdowns with me. Thanks for being there during all the boy drama and heartbreaks. Basically, thanks for being by my side during these crazy, wonderful years. You will be missed.
To those of you finishing your college career early, I'm sorry this wasn't for you. However, I respect the crap out of your decision. You are brave, you are confident, and I wish you all the luck in everything you do. You are not just a "college dropout," you are bold, young people who know who you are and demand to be happy. You reject the societal mold and expectation that you get your bachelor's degree. Instead, you carve your own path that is right for you individually. I hope you travel, explore and enjoy your freedom while the rest of us slave away in classrooms; I'll just be living vicariously through your Instagram.
In conclusion, farewell for now to my friends moving on to bigger and better things. I offer you no resentment or hard feelings, only excitement and love for you and your future. I hope to keep in touch and to see you soon, but if not, know that I am always cheering for you from a distance. I can't wait to see the things we will both accomplish and reminisce about our college years together.
