On the first day of school, in my first journalism class ever, my wise professor informed us that, "Media is changing and we need to change with it." Now, a seasoned Journalism major and summer Social Media intern, I could not agree with this professor more. However, in my opinion, journalism has recently been changing negatively. Breaking news mediums offer rushed, pieced together gossip, disguised as news. The "real" story is not heard until days or weeks after the breaking story. Media outlets are tainted by corporations and biased, politicized versions of stories. The simple truth is -- If you're a Republican or Democrat, you can find the news source that fits your molding of the world.

That's not the point of journalism. The point is to tell the truth, to be a watchdog of corporations and government, rather than their humble servant.

Ironically, I have learned more unbiased and accurate news telling from a comedian, a profession known for blunt, sometimes crude, honesty. The Media has gotten so ridiculous, the only way to swallow some truths seems to be through laughter. Jon Stewart was the demigod of comedic honesty in regard to the media, government and our world. Comedy central offered sharper insight than CNN, MSN, FOX, C-Span, etc. could ever offer. Here are my Thank You's.

Thank you Jon for re-establishing my faith in honest news telling and feeding a media-apathetic generation the gist of the world with a hint of sarcasm. We will miss you!
