Its been a wild time in room 509, but its time to say goodbye now.

A Farewell To A Few of My Favorite Things About Room 509

I don’t know where the year went, but I move out of my dorm tomorrow. Both of my roommates have moved out already, and I’m spending my last night in room 509. This room has stressed me out and calmed me down. It was my home away from home, even if it took awhile for it to feel like that.

I’ve amassed copious amounts of stuff and finally figured out a way to organize most of it, only to be moving out now. Living in a dorm was definitely an experience I was glad to have, yet I’m grateful to not be repeating. One year has been enough. Here are the top ten things I will definitely miss the most about my room.

1. Indecisive showers

This is the only shower I’ve ever been in that is always too hot. Running out of hot water was never really a problem. The shower was either scalding hot or lukewarm, there was no in between. Cold shower after a long day in the sun? How about burning water, no matter where you turn the handle?

2. HUGE desk area/wardrobe

Too much space? Not a problem! I never had to worry about having enough room for all my belongings, because my furniture was as small as possible!

3. McDonald's

Our room had a lovely view of the McDonald’s behind the building. I will definitely miss the constant line of grumbling cars in the drive-thru and the sound of the employees taking people’s orders.

4. Window whistle

There’s a beautiful whistling noise that doesn’t go away in our room. We thought it was the air conditioning, or the room next to us, or the pipes. Turns out it was our windows, which never shuts completely unless you slam it and lock it immediately.

5. Paper thin walls

I’ll miss hearing the conversations between my neighbors and their moms when I’m trying to sleep.

6. The door

Sometimes our door doesn’t close all the way, and people can come in when they want. Sometimes, when we got used to it not closing and locking, we would leave your keys in our room only to have the door actually lock.

7. Room 609

I don’t know what exactly they are doing, but room 609 knew how to have a good time at all hours of the night.

8. Layout

The ladders on our bunk beds were always in the only open space we had in the room, ultimately making that space completely useless and resulting in many stubbed toes. Our room was too big anyways.

9. Hardwood floors

We had so much fun seeing how much dust and hair could accumulate on the floors before our hardwoods became carpet.

10. The bed

Last but certainly not least, my personal favorite part of my room that I will certainly miss. The sound of my bed squeaking every time I breathed was just music to my ears, and my roommates loved it too when it woke them up every time I turned in my sleep. No matter how much WD-40 we put on that bed, nothing could stop that sweet sound.

A lot of students are very jealous of me because I live in the brand new building. And they should be. Because even though it was a brand new building, it had all the quirks that a good dorm room should.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
