It’s gotten to that time of year: the holidays. The time everyone goes home or somewhere off to spend time with their family. Family is something that I consider very important. Family, as defined by the dictionary, is a basic social unit consisting of parents and their children, considered as a group, whether dwelling together or not. If I were to define the word myself, well how much time do you have.
I was lucky; I was born into a huge, close family. Family dinners every night, huge dinners for every birthday and holiday. It got even bigger after both of my parents got remarried. It went from my brother, sister, and I, to having three more stepsisters and a step brother. That adds up to seven of us, which might sound crazy to normal people. Add this on top of the countless cousins, aunts, uncles, etc, it's insane. My family definitely is anything but normal.
One of my favorite things about my family in particular: the ability to be all over the country and still stay as connected as we are. A year and a half ago I had the opportunity to travel with members of my family over the summer across the country. We drove countless days and hours through multiple states. During the trip, we stayed with various family members. It was an amazing experience to have with my family, but more about that later on in another article.
The holidays were always a huge event, this year will be no different. Thanksgiving takes up the whole week; Christmas takes up the whole month. We have so many families to spend time with that it takes up all our school holidays, it is really a dream experience. The food, the people, the love that you experience when you’re surrounded by all the people that care about you, it is something I can’t simple explain in this article. I doubt I could ever really describe how I feel about my family or the other people I care about.
At the end of the today, I wouldn't change my family no matter how crazy it can get sometimes. They're my family and they'll always be with me. This year for thanksgiving, I'm thankful for the people in my life that help me and inspire me every day. It's something that I could never repay.
