To My Family, Before I Head Off To College

Eighteen years later, this is not a goodbye, but a "see you later."

To My Family, Before I Head Off To College

Dear Family,

There simply are not enough words to be able to thank you for being here for me through any of the ups and downs that I encounter through everyday life. You have been here for me through the drama with friendships, the long nights of schoolwork, and have offered an endless amount of life advice. At this time, all I can seem to muster is thank you. Although the phrase "thank you" does not even begin to describe how grateful I am for you, that is where I will begin. Thank you for supporting me through the past twelve years of school, and your seemingly unwavering support for this next chapter of my life.

Although my initial excitement to start my new journey has not disappeared, I am anxious to begin this next phase without being one room away. I am truly going to miss the late night conversations, always being nearby for advice sessions, and of course, home cooked meals.

Truthfully, without you, I could not imagine walking across that stage to accept my high school diploma. Everything I have achieved up until this point is in part because of your dedication and love. The truth of the matter is, you are where I learned my morals and values, and earned my ambition to succeed, and this next phase of my life is as much for me as it is for you.

Your family is supposed to be your core support system, but you have proved to be so much more to me. You are my best friends, my moral compasses, my confidants, and my comic relief when life throws me curveballs. Yes, they say that you cannot choose your family, but I have clearly been blessed, as I could not dream of a better family.

I will always cherish the time we have spent together, and look forward to experiencing so many memories together. The best part of having a family is that they are here to experience your growth. You have watched grow from a talkative toddler to a speaker at my graduation ceremony. You have watched me play numerous sports (only to learn that I am not athletic). You have watched me expand my horizons as I travel and meet new people. And now, you have watched me apply to college and choose the school that fits me best.

Without you, I could not have imagined going through this journey we call life; although I may be moving to a new location, I could never forget you.

Thank you for everything, and see you soon.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
