Fall's Hottest Nail Polish Colors

The temperature has been going up and down the past few weeks, but it’s almost time for riding boots, leggings, chunky sweaters, and scarves!

To go along with our ever-so-trendy Oxford fall fashion, we of course need to run to the store to pick up new nail polish for fall. Say goodbye to your passionfruit pink polish for the season, and bust out these popular fall colors!

Royal Blue: In the October issue of Harper’s Bazaar, royal blue made quite a statement in tops, skirts, shoes, and jewelry. Not only is royal in right now in clothing, it’s in for nails! Royal blue nails give you a pop of color against darker fall colors you may be wearing. Some fab royal blue polishes are Nicole by OPI; Kardashian Kolors: Listen to Your Momager for $8; Nars, Seize the Night Night Falls for $17; and Essie, Mesmerize for $6-$8.

Purple: The color of royalty. All shades of purple are in this fall, and I know my best friend, Katie Figy, will be happy about this! Find one that you like best and roll with it. I personally like pastel and lighter shades of purple for summer and spring, so this fall I will be wearing darker shades like plum! Essie has some pretty hues of purple called Smokin’ Hot, Bahama Mama, Damsel in a Dress, and Decadent Diva, all between $6-$8.

Blood Red: Blood red and burgundy are fall’s hottest color in leather pieces of clothing and accessories like bags, boots, and skirts. So why not wear it on your nails too? This is my favorite fall color and I will definitely be making a trip to the store to buy a new bottle of polish. Some blood red/burgundy polishes to try are Essie, Bordeaux $6-$8 and OPI, Got The Blues For Red for around $8-$10.

Nude: You just can’t go wrong with nude nails because they go with everything, and are very elegant and classic. Crazy nail colors come and go, but nude will always be stylish and simple. Try Orly, Prelude to a Kiss for $8, and Maybelline New York Color Show Nail Lacquer, Go Nude for $4-$5.

Chocolate Brown: I would normally never think to paint my nails brown, but I may have to give it a whirl this fall. Dark browns are an unexpected color for nails this fall, but Vogue and Glamour Magazine insist that this earthy tone is sweeping the nation this season. Deep shades of brown on your nails will look super-chic with gold bracelets, rings, and watches, in addition to tan skirts, pants, and bags. Try Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure, Branch Out for $8; and Essie, Partner in Crime, Chocolate Cakes; and Little Brown Dress for $6-$8.

Teal: Although teal is often thought of as a summer color because of its brightness, teal really works all year round. Tans, browns, and golds look especially pretty when paired with teal, so keep that in mind when you’re putting on an outfit for class or going uptown for a night out! Teal nails will pack some punch this fall, and will provide some happy color on those dreary overcast days. Some teal polishes to try out this fall are Maybelline, Tenacious Teal for $4; China Glaze, Keepin It Teal for $5-$7; and Nicole by OPI, Teal Me Something New for $8.

Burnt Orange: Paint your nails a shade of burnt orange to match the fall foliage! Nothing screams fall like the leaves changing color, especially while in Oxford. I only have one bottle of orange nail polish that is really bright and I never liked it. I need to try a darker shade of orange this fall to see if it works with my pale skin! Burnt orange nails will pair well with nude, cream, grey, and green sweaters, skirts, and tops, and gold jewelry. For burnt orange nail polish try out L’Oréal, L’Orange for $6; OPI, Clubbing Til Sunrise for $8-$10; and Essie, Alligator Purse for $6-$8.

If you’re like my housemates and I and enjoy frequently painting your nails, try out these fashion forward fall colors this season! You can find most of these colors at Wal-Mart, Walgreens, and CVS! Happy painting!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
