"Fall" In Love With New England

Lets face it, most New England summers are way to hot, and most winters and impossibly cold. However when it comes to fall, our New England states totally own it, and heres why:

  1. One word: Salem. If you have not been, or never heard of Salem before, it is one of the earliest settled towns in new England and is infamous for the Salem Witch trials. During the fall season all sorts of people dress up and flood the streets - throwing a super sized “Halloween party” for pretty much the entire month of October. A fan of ghosts? Salem will satisfy your cravings for the supernatural with eerie cemeteries, over a dozen haunted houses (both real and fake), and tours like no other. Salem is an old city that blossoms with history and is definitely worth a drop in.
  2. Apples, Pumpkins and donuts….oh my: What is fall without both apple and pumpkin picking? Scattered across new England are apple orchards like no other. Ranging from large places in Massachusetts such as Russell orchards in Ipswich to a more small farm in Lexington, the new England apples are definitely a necessity. No worries for those who don't fancy apples, because almost every farm is known for their hot, apple cider donuts, accompanied by what other than - apple cider. This relationship of donuts and cider is truly goals.
  3. Leaves, Leaves, and More Leaves: One of the most beautiful things that i have ever seen is a mountain turned red, orange, and yellow from the leaves of the trees. This sight is one not to miss. For a short period of time the leaves in almost all New England trees are turned into a variety of colors that just scream fall. I don't feel at all embarrassed when saying that i am a true leaf peeper….and you should be to.
  4. Fairs: Summer carnivals and beachfront boardwalks are long gone. Fairs are setting the new trend, covering different towns across new England. One of the most famous is close to home for us - the Topsfield fair, sporting rides, gigantic pumpkins and amazing food. Plus, let's be real, who wants to eat a caramel apple in the summer?
  5. Cool air = Cooler style: Nothing is better than waking up to a crisp bite in the air - besides sleeping in of course. But, having such a refreshing temperature makes it nicer to do everything - from exercise, work, school, and even eating. However, my most favorite attribute to the cooler air, is bringing back my favorite boots and coat - and buying more!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
