Fall Break is the Best Break

It comes at the best time of year, and we really, really need it.

Fall break lines perfectly up with the end of midterms of a college students first semester. Fall break is a light house of sorts for us college students, giving us hope that after all the midterm tests and stress you can have a short break from it all. It's been a rough two odd months for a college student, full of stress and trying to get use to our classes, and we need this break, need to not think about annoying time killing assignments, multiple chapter readings, and studying for exams. Yes, fall break is short but it is oh so sweet.

Another great part about fall break is that it doesn't fall on any major holidays. Meaning that you can do whatever you want without feeling guilty about not seeing family if you don't want to. No holidays means no mandatory family events that occur during nearly every other college break for the rest of the year. If you want to go back home just to hang out with old high school friends, it's fine! If you want to go on a mini vacation with your friends or even do a solo trip you can do that too! If you just want to stay in your room and eat pizza rolls while watching every single Disney Halloween special from our childhood, guess what you can! It is a beautiful break about relaxing from the aftermath of midterms.

Fall break is the best because it gives you the time you need to get your bearings back. Midterms is when you find out how you're really doing in your classes, and after break is when you have to lock down and either maintain your grade or work your butt off to pull that sucker back up to passing. Another great part is that most professors will assign most things after break, giving us an actual break from classes. We get a full weekend plus about two days of total freedom from school. I do not have to think about graphs or group assignments and it feels so good. Yes you will be "ready" to go back to school, catching up on work and rest, but you aren't ever really "ready" to be back in the rush and stress of the last half of the fall semester.

Even though fall break is normally one to three days long depending on the college or university you are at all these things add up into making it one of the most beneficial breaks for a college student. Lets be honest everything is better in the fall anyway. You may not want to go back to classes but at least you'll be caught up and ready to close out the rest of the semester (or at least make it to Thanksgiving break).

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
