I, by no means, am saying that I feel everyone who has committed a crime should be put to death. However, it is no secret that crimes are becoming more frequent and increasingly more brutal. One cannot even go on Facebook without seeing a heart-breaking murder, rape or kidnap. It's everywhere. People's lack of compassion, sickening thoughts and sadistic actions. Many people are horrified to walk out their door for fear of their own tragedy. Kids have to be strapped to their parent's hips and even then, they are still being molested or beaten to death by their family or someone close to them. The big question that arises for me and many others, is what do we do to decrease the crimes and save lives?
If you have ever read the bible, you are very familiar with the saying "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth." If the term seems unfamiliar, it is simply a fancy way of saying a person who has injured another person is to be penalized to a similar degree. For example, if someone has committed a crime such as rape of a child, it would only be just to castrate or give equal punishment to them. Seems only fair, correct?
Allow me to ask a question. When a child does something bad and their discipline is lacking, will they repeat the bad behavior? The answer is yes. If it didn't hurt, they didn't learn their lesson and will continue the frowned-upon act. This is what's happening in our system today. People who are committing crimes are basically getting a slap on the hand. So, now we are in this world where people see that they can get away with anything. Therefore, it's no surprise when crime rates are increasing due to lack of repercussions and evidence of a weak law enforcement.
I am aware that the death penalty would cost us as a society way more than a sentence of life without parole, which is why I didn't include this as a choice. My theory in this article is more so saying that what is good for one person is good for another. If people saw that there were greater consequences to their actions maybe crimes would decrease in number and severity.
No, I am not a person who is satisfied with killing everyone who makes a mistake for their karma will come on their judgment day. However, I am all for protecting everyone who is at risk for murder, rape and harm.
For the people who want to bring up "Well, people make mistakes and if they do their time then that should be that." Put yourself in a situation where the closest person to you is killed in the most brutal way. Not only must you mourn the death of a loved one, now you have to look at the person who took everything away from you in court. You have to watch them get nothing as far as punishment while you just lost everything. You will feel guilt, anger, and sadness everyday of your life. You'll watch them walk away with cuffs and that'll be your only closure. You know they'll never feel pain like you did or feel remorse. Now they'll get warm meals, a bed to rest their head at night and sometimes even a get out of jail free card. Meanwhile, your person is in the ground or struggling with lifelong issues, whether it be emotionally or physically. Can you honestly say you'd be okay with just a slap on the hand?
